What is this bracket from a tip?

I'm installing some larger intake piping from my airbox to the turbos on a 2002 996TT. I'm custom fabbing hard piping for most of the way, using silicon couplings where necessary. At the top of the engine, there's a bracket that I'd like to remove to make a little more room to get the piping through. It doesn't appear to do anything, but obviously Porsche didn't put it there for no reason. Can anyone tell me what it's for?

that bracket is actually on a tip and the manuals. it is supposed to keep your engine/trans from getting pushed thru the tunnel on hard rear end collision as a slight safety feature don't worry though i removed mine when i intalled my 2.5" pippings
