Being realistic !
If you're going to drop 30k on a car and then mod it to be as fast/as nice as the turbo you really want, then why not just drop 30k and finance 10k-15k which is the equivalent of spreading out the mods over time.
Is it the maintenance or mod bug you're worried about?

30k is not much for a 996tt. I would not budget 10k for mods, but 10k for repairs. Don't get toys that could hold back your business.
I have owned a Porsche since I was 20, and been a small business owner the whole time. Never buy a toy car, if you can't afford to throw all that money away. If you can great, buy whatever. If you can't, use the money to expand business till you can.

there are some cool cars for 30k
- 06 E55 AMG
- Supra TT
- Legalized R33 Skyline
- 07 335i (very fun car, lots of power for 1.5-2k in mods wont even take your 10k hehe)
- 996 C4S
As others said M3 is tough car to step up from and repalce, everyone always wants to move up and not down or to the side. If you dont want to wait I would definetly do a nicely modded 335i, and do the 996tt next. I've had a handful of fun and fast cars, not nearly as many as some here and I always thought of "X is going to be my next car". I feel like with this car I am content and I really don't think of the "next car".

tatts bro you may wanna look into a 993tt (if they are less now) or heck even a C4 or C4S? or even an older 996 GT3. The turbo is unique I agree BUT i have driven many many Porsches on track over the last 6 years instructing for PCA...the Cayman for example is a wonderful handling car, in some ways better than the 911. Heck even a C2 with a nice LSD is a great driver...the reality is that Porsche makes MANY great cars, from being on track driving everything from a boxter to a cup car and even GT3 RSR ...I can tell you that you have many choices and you can't go wrong per se. If you can make it down to VIR for the Zone 2 Porsche event whatever car you get I guarentee you'll enjoy it on track and get to learn a whole lot...if you're close to Lime Rock or the Glen then you have some nice choices up your way!
I am confused. In one week you went from deciding between a 360 Modena and a 996TT that you would mod the hell out of (enough to not think about the 360) to now wanting a $30,000 996TT? No 996TT is worth getting at the price level. Like it was said before you will need $5-10,000 probably just to make drive right. High 30s minimum should be your budget to get a "decent" one.
If you have a business don't put yourself into a hole you might not get out of. Wait a few years until you are stable. A Turbo at the budget you mentioned is gonna light your pockets on fire.

If it is financed, and you can get one with a warranty (for $50k)... May not be a bad idea, no?
(It goes inline with the thought of purchasing one for $30k, and spending another $10k to make it run right - mentioned above, except this car already runs perfectly - with a warranty, possibly)

OK
being self employed buisness owner many can relate with this, There may be a chance i dont get to buy the 996tt in the spring for many reasons that may arise, i have a household including pets
other vehicles and a couple buisnesses im holding down alone......... im shooting that everything goes smooth for the next six months, if not then i have to be realistic with a car purchace. i want the 996tt so bad i can hardly stay off this forum researching
so i need to start researching my back up purchace that would be about 30k with a 10k mod allowance, the mod allowance will be spread out after the car is purchaced.

If your GF needs transportation and you are kind enough to privide if for her, buy her a $2k Corolla, those things run like a champ.
You will NOT find anything out there for $30k that will quench your thirst for a Turbo Porsche, I don't care how modded or special it is.
+1
You want a TT so bad, but are keeping (giving it to your GF) a car that you say been there done that (which reads in my book that the M3 has issues or didn't live up to your expectations). Sell the M and use the money for a TT, or wait 6 months to a year till you have enough cash to afford it/both.
FYI, I still have my Modded M3 in the garage next to my GT2, and would never think of selling it (it is such an unbelieveable machine), it was only that the M3 could not beat (could match) but not BEAT 997 GT2's on the track (handling only, straight line no problem
) is why I decided to UPGRADE, and I enjoy both cars equally as they fit the voids the other have.
Good Luck

Why are you GIVING your GIRLFRIEND an M3 to drive?

My budget will be 50k
From my reasearch it looks like i can score a 2001-2003 with decent miles for that price, i was going to do a 360 but i decided ( hoping) the 996tt would be my next car and enough to satisfy my hunger
Im looking at adding about 10k in mods to make it look and sound the way i want so i have ALOT more reading/comparisons to do

I've spent over 100k under a couple years on cars, trucks, rims ect ext...,if my posts seem all over the place its because i can afford to do it...if you can't do the same then you shouldn't be posting....if i sell some of my cars and a couple watches then i have my 996tt money
