Being realistic !
I've spent over 100k under a couple years on cars, trucks, rims ect ext...,if my posts seem all over the place its because i can afford to do it...if you can't do the same then you shouldn't be posting....if i sell some of my cars and a couple watches then i have my 996tt money

in not the one trying to get a a 996 tt with a 30 k budget... but whatever... good luck.
I made a mistake when i wrote " budget" i appologize, i make more then enough money that i don't worry too much about things, taking on another buisness venture recently has me in unfamiliar grounds sort of speak, i have zero debt and plan on keeping it that way..buying anything else right now in my life is just a bonus
I see now , i think the op may be confused ? cuase he is allover the place.
first hes talking about a 360 ..... which is way north of a 996 tt in price, but then he sais he has a 30 k budget for a 996 tt ??and modding witha budget of 10k over the years ?
i dont get it ...

He's just giving you some realistic feed back.
That is what you're asking for by posting this thread...
A 996 tt with a 30 k budget..that's going to be a Fred Flinstone car.

Damn I should have bought my F360 in cyber space, could have saved 100K
+1

To the OP - I sold my E46 M3 to upgrade into my 996TT.
No comparison.
M3 makes for a better daily driver but at the end of the day there's too many compromises. The Turbo is a true sports car, although to be honest it's a little much around town. I could see how a tip would work for daily usage, but the 6spd gets tiresome (at least with Vancouver Island's snail-crawl traffic).
So recently I bought a 968 Coupe to use as a daily, and honestly, for half of what I paid for my E46 the 968 is only slightly slower, but I find the handling to be more neutral and honest. Exhaust note isn't exactly inspiring, but the M3 didn't exactly sound like a Ferrari either.
So the bottom line is my Turbo really only "cost" me about $20 - $25K or so factoring in the sale of my M3, plus I bought the 968 for about $13K, so that's roughly $38,000 for two awesome cars that totally complement eachother (re: crazy performance and daily driving).
I guess it probably helps that my wife doesn't give 2 ****s about the kind of car she drives and prefers understatement wherever possible. I literally had to beg her to let me buy a '72 Chevelle for her to cruise around in as an option so she's not stuck with driving the damn 4Runner every day.
ANYWAY...
Point is - I think in your case keeping the M3 for your gf is a dumb move. Unless she's a real car buff who intrinsically appreciates things like tighter turn-in, exploring the torque curve during at-the-limit cornerning, etc. - the only difference for most women between an M3 (which most guys don't really know about, let alone girls) and a regular 3 series is gonna be stuff like having to fill up with high octane gas, etc.
Just sell it and get a 996TT, and then use the remaining cash to spend on mods AND something shiny and "the right color" for her.
Which you can probably find for $5K - $10K.
That's the reality.

honestly
i tried to sell and seems like i get more dreamers, i even offered the car for a rediculous low price and still was a hassle even with 2 sets of rims, OEM bme car cover ect ect ect...
If i happen to find a buyer then theres a nice chunk of ching to go towards the porche

thanks for the insight
If it's in good shape and you've kept up with proper oil/fluid changes and valve adjustments on schedule you should have no trouble moving it.
Also sometimes dropping the price to a certain "buyer bracket" means that you'll just be catering to dreamers. Might be worth repositioning the car with a slightly above avg. (stated) price point and talk about how you're an experienced driver and most M3's have been abused, etc.
That way you can initiate conversations with the actual buying crowd and then negotiate an actual price from there.
I sold mine for about $5K above "avg market value" by simply doing that, and I didn't "adjust" the truth, either. Mine was cherry condition and I actually know how to drive. Most M3's really do get the **** beaten out of them by 17 year old kids out for a sandbag session with daddy's car.
Just a suggestion.

Agreed, i don't beat on any of my cars either....not worth the wear and tear or attention from the fuzz....you wouldn't believe what i was asking for when i put it on the market!! E46fanatics board is terrible
30k is not much for a 996tt. I would not budget 10k for mods, but 10k for repairs. Don't get toys that could hold back your business.
I have owned a Porsche since I was 20, and been a small business owner the whole time. Never buy a toy car, if you can't afford to throw all that money away. If you can great, buy whatever. If you can't, use the money to expand business till you can.

Op, do not get the car until you are 100 percent comfortable or it will ruin the experience. Plus, that m3 is such a great ride already!
OP you've gotten some very good advice...as Chris noted, it's been my experience that the ladies generally like shiney, newer looking, safe carw with brand association but not really trim lines, in otherwords instead of an M3 a '06 325i BMW would put a smile on most girls faces...get an X5 for her and she'll be extra happy...or maybe a used ML or C class?? She'll tell all her friends and be like "girl look what he got me....it's a beautiful BENZ" haha!
.....then if worst comes to worst and you break up everytone will know that your such a nice, sensitive, and generous guy lol
