996TT Tiptronic vs. ZR1

bad107.. I did not mean your car was slow.. it just sounded like you had done some work to your car, bigger turbo's etc.. I just did not realize that a stock ZR1 was that quick..

Yes, standard tranny, no modifications. I did not try to modify the TCU via EVOMS, but the it never worked for some odd reason.
I had a leaky gasket in the transmission when I bought it in January 2010. You had to take apart the tranny to get to the gasket and it was only a few hundred more to have the clutch packs rebuilt, so I sent the gearbox to an awesome dude who rebuilt it to OEM specs (he is a mercedes mechanic). He must have done a good job because i have put 100 gallons of VP109 through my car which puts out >600 tq at the wheels on race gas. The night I went out with the ZR-1 I did about 20+ pulls and put ~50 miles on the car without stopping...NO ISSUES and these pulls were in third gear.
That said, I expect my tranny to fail anytime and Motorwerks of Houston, TX will be rebuilding it to handle 1000+ hsp/tq with faster shifts ($6k ouch!)

Bad don't start with the whole price debate and age of car because then you sound like a typical Corvette Owner LOL They usually bring up the price factor after they get schooled hahah. On a side note my car with 3076's even at .8 bar easily ran away from a '09 Z06 on the highway from 60+. At 1.05 Bar it wasn't pretty Come spring time a friend has a Zr1 so I'll see how I fare against it plus by then I'll be 100% tuned. Damn cold weather I need to move to FL
What's the % of power lost considering you're awd and in a tip car?

Tiptronics lose 25-28% from the crank...they also weigh an extra 100+ pounds and are much larger limiting spacer even more
Despite keeping boost between shifts, this puts the tiptronic at a huge disadvantage.

For a frame of reference, stock ZR1's are 7.5-8.0 second 60-130 cars. Pretty much identical to a stock 997 GT2.

Mike - At similar mod levels, the fastest manual cars are always faster than the fastest TIPs. But the TIPs are much more consistent.

Ken 996ttalot over here has a full Promotive set up with 800bhp. Its an MKB Tip and it is quick, very very quick. I would love to see the average driver change gears that quick and still retain boost. Trouble is no LSD for Tips at the moment
Frank.
