996TT Tiptronic vs. ZR1

Posted this in the zr-1 thread, but thought it deserved its own.

Went out the other night with a "stock" ZR1....the last of the three runs was the only one he did not get the jump on me...

I was running race gas at 1.6 bar (could have gone a little higher) without a break boost.

That's pretty amazing. Considering the Vette is 100s of lb lighter.

I am running Alpha 28's with injectors, silicone intake, AP i/c, y-pipe, tb, plenum.

The corvette had a passenger in it, I did not, but I still think its lighter than a tiptronic 996TT with a roll cage and 90lb of audio equipment.

My car puts down ~540 hsp, 650 tq on 1.7 bar at VividRacing's shop, you can see my dyno...search for "bad107 reborn" thread that Dan put up a month ago.

lol are you serious? first of all, the ZR1 is not much faster than me lol and if the race continued, i would have kept pulling. A stock zr-1 dynos at 550 while a stock tiptronic 996tt does ~320....you do the math. Oh yeah, the ZR-1 is lighter too!

secondly, the ZR-1 is a $110k corvette that is new...the 996TT is a 10 year old car that can picked up for $40k. Sure, sell your 996TT but good luck finding a good looking car that can run a ZR-1!

Yes, standard tranny, no modifications. I did not try to modify the TCU via EVOMS, but the it never worked for some odd reason.

I had a leaky gasket in the transmission when I bought it in January 2010. You had to take apart the tranny to get to the gasket and it was only a few hundred more to have the clutch packs rebuilt, so I sent the gearbox to an awesome dude who rebuilt it to OEM specs (he is a mercedes mechanic). He must have done a good job because i have put 100 gallons of VP109 through my car which puts out >600 tq at the wheels on race gas. The night I went out with the ZR-1 I did about 20+ pulls and put ~50 miles on the car without stopping...NO ISSUES and these pulls were in third gear.

That said, I expect my tranny to fail anytime and Motorwerks of Houston, TX will be rebuilding it to handle 1000+ hsp/tq with faster shifts ($6k ouch!)

Thanks mate,
I will be sending mine to MKB in Germany, I must be unlucky as I am only running 530 bhp & 550 ft/lbs @ 1bar 99 fuel and have slippage in 3rd. Done all I can, filter and an ATF change. No improvement.
Frank
