Mobile 1 Delvac or Porsche Shell transaxle are the only the fluids that Porsche recommends. Every transmission guru and race shop I've been at agrees.

Ditto.

Too slippery? Never heard a lube called that..... DAS put PORSCHE stuff in my unit when I had it rebuilt and 2nd gear cutom obviated...see that huge thread. About 1.2k later I put delvac in...to clean out any "new metal." I put it in every 15k now.

YMMV.

Note to the newer people:

Mobile 1 Delvac IS NOT THE SAME as Mobil 1 Gear Lube that lacks the delvac word. Same numbers (75w-90, etc.).

something about it being too slippery for the brass synchros in 996 tt but is fine for steel ones in GT3.

Interesting, Delvac is the Mobil 1 product line for heavy-duty diesel trucks. Another thread had folks objecting to using diesel motor oils in their Porsche turbo engine.

There's a Mobil 1 5W-40 formulated for turbo-diesels that I use in both my 996 TT and Ford 7.3 PSD. Makes shopping simple.

I've never seen that problem with Delvac. I've seen that problem with gear oils that have friction modifiers in them for LSDs or have had LSD additives mixed into the oil. But it's not a problem associated with Delvac...

Interesting thread...what is the general feeling about Royal Purple or BG lubricants for 996TT? I've had good luck with both of those in the past with other vehicles.

I've heard that Castrol Syntec 5-50 works well in the motor but not sure about the transaxle and the diffs?
