I wish I had a warehouse shop to clear the mind. That's really cool. You should install a dyno or maybe you already have one?

Too much noise. But a dyno is about ten minutes away though.

Still on the fence. I want to use the gt3 cam towers and valve train plus loose the varo. There is quite some weight there in those parts. Plus I do not think I need the varo because my turbos don't start spooling til about 3-3500 rpm.

the gt3 cam towers? how come?

most just trench the stock towers and use the gt3 cams/synchs

Don't know how long the cam will work for. The 996 exhaust cam has a flat bucket and cam lobe profile is ground for that type of lifter. Plus the GT3 lifter is smaller and lighter.

I sent 5 cams out to be cam doctored.
1of5) 996 turbo intake.
2of5) 996 turbo exhaust.
3of5) 997 gt3 exhaust.
4of5) 997 gt3 intake, varo.
5of5) Porsche motorsports intake cam.

Now when I get the all the info back I will see what is the deal. I did run them in the lathe to just check lift and here is what I found. 996 intake and exhaust was about 10mm lift. the 997 gt3 intake cam is about 12mm lift. motorsports intake cam about 12mm. 997 gt3 exhaust cam about 10mm lift. Well all that means about nothing with out the duration numbers. What I do know is the cam profile is different and not sure if you can run the gt3 cams on the 996 buckets. Also the sync's do not line up. The Motorsports cam has only one tab to sync (just a home).

Not sure as yet. When I find out the exact specs of all cams and if they will accept the different lifter/buckets. There are many things to look at, will the added lift duration help or hurt? Will the head flow more or is there no more to flow (exhaust side). Will it kill the velocity in the header? In any case 1) If it turns out the gt3 cam is the winner then either a standalone or I have to cut all the teeth off the sync wheel and put then back where the turbo cam has them. 2) Same with the motorsports cam. My gut thinks some head work and stock turbo cams may be the winner though.

man you are venturing into the top secret world of cam design....No one likes giving that stuff away. My understanding is that there are some using GT3 cams, but I would expect duration to be an issue on an FI car. Maybe only for exhaust it works. On the intake side I would think the higher lift would be desired. I heard that there was someone making a sport cam setup for our cars, but never heard anymore about it.

Yes the sport cams. You mean give me 8k and I will send you some regrinds that have a tad bit more duration but you are at the limit of the lash take up that the lifter/bucket can handle. Those ones? Or the latest ones that you need to put new valves in to take up the space that reducing the base circle created? Haha. I am in motor world to long to drink the punch.

Well members I was playing with some of the parts today and the GT3 lifter is 55 grams lighter then the stock turbo lifter. Times that by 12.... Valves are inbound and if the rain keeps up I will fly cut my pistons this weekend..
