Split OEM exhaust into two pieces ?

Does anyone know if it's possible to split an OEM exhaust system into two pieces to make it easier to pack and ship ?

I've had a close look at mine it seems that the flexible coupling between the two mufflers could be parted then re-assembled later.

Has anyone tried this or am I off in the weeds here ? The latter I suspect :-)

Thanks Tim

You could cut it then weld it back together if need be. I would not do it though.

Split Mufflers

I cut them apart there to make it easier to put the exhaust back on - had a torn rotator cuff and I only had one arm to work with. I had plates welded on the ends of each muffler so I didn't have to weld back together. There are aftermarket exhausts with two separate mufflers. If having them connected together provides an equalization of backpressure between the two sides then it probably will have a negative impact on performance, but I haven't put the car back on the road since I did it and I've made several other mods to the exhaust, so I will probably not ever know.

Ok guys - thanks for the replies.

Looks as though the exhaust will have to be shipped in one piece.

Must say I was quite surprised at its weight !
