Wrapping up winter projects - GT2 slave mod, replace plugs, install Speedtech
So I'm finally wrapping up a few weeks at picking away at some winter projects:
Last night I got the exhaust (minus tips) installed - all I've got left is to put the bumper on and make sure I didn't screw anything up.
Re GT2 mod - for anyone interested I took gearhead's fantastic post on the topic and merged his information plus the threads he mentions plus the EVOMS instructions plus any comments/advice/suggestions people had into this document:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...thkey=CJzqyOED
Just to be clear - I take no credit for the content. I just reorganized it a bit to make it easier to follow as a set of instructions.
In summary, none of the projects went super-smooth with the exception of the plug install (super easy once you have everything apart). On the GT2 mod, I struggled to remove and reinstall the PS pump. It is very doable, but there is just not much clearance to get that thing in and out of there. I have no idea how you would do it with the reservoir attached.
The OEM slave uninstall went fairly smoothly - it is awkward work and some of the lines are difficult to remove, but not that bad. The hardest part of GT2 slave install was getting the slave bracket bolts to start threading. I had no problem getting everything roughly into position, but getting the alignment done and the bolts started was tricky.
While doing the master swap I snapped a hydraulic line going into the OEM master while removing it. Luckily it was a cheap part and easy to replace - other than the pain of working on your back under the dashboard, the master cylinder stuff is pretty easy.
Re exhaust install - minor issues. Mainly, I had trouble aligning the Speedtech v-flanges. I ended up having to unbolt the cats from the turbos slightly to get a little more play in everything. After that, it all managed to bolt up fine.
I am more than happy to share my experiences with anyone, but frankly, I learned how to do all of this stuff with support from the forum (particularly the members mentioned above). I'm no crack mechanic, but as frustrating as certain moments were, I'm satisfied with knowing I did it all (ask me that again when I actually fire the thing up and find steering fluid leaking and exhaust gas escaping

Thanks - I'm looking forward to it. Unfortunately, during the winter my 911 lives in a side garage bay - access to that bay is currently covered in > 3 ft of snow. Before too long I may need to use the snow blower to at least thin out the snow pack so I can drive the car before July!

Yeah, still stock. Other than the GT2 slave and new exhaust the car is unmodded. I'll probably get an EPL flash at some point, but I don't think I'm going to do anything else. Frankly, I'm tired of wrenching on it, so I'll probably hold off on the EPL flash, too, so the stock clutch lasts a little longer

Hi Trevor,
That's great! Half the fun of owning these cars is doing a little work on them from time to time and getting to know how they are put together and work, etc. - it can be very rewarding and satisfying.

Woo-hoo, it starts. I decided to try to get some heat in the new exhaust system before putting the rear bumper back on.
ETW - no problem. Come April let's find a time / place.
Thanks again Scott & John.
