What was the symptom when the master failed?

The clutch pedal went all the way to the floor and stayed there. I could pull it up by hand and pump it up but it would not disengage the clutch and after a couple pumps it would be down on the floor again.

I had this happen when I got air in the old pentosin system and just thought it needed to be bled. But the reservoir was full of brake fluid. My mech tried to bleed it to no avail, he called Evoms and they told him it was most likely the master and told him if the system was not flushed properly of all pentosin it would cause this.

They were very careful and flushed the heck out of it and put in a new GT2 master. Been good for a year now. It is a ton better than the old hydraulic assist. The pedal is a little heavy at first but you get used to it quick. My wife has no trouble driving the car and can launch and back up without jerking or stalling. She was never able to do that with the old pentosin system. I also have a lightweight flywheel so that didn't help either. Much more functional and easier now. I would highly recomend this mod to any turbo owner.

First off, people need to get out of the habit/practice of calling power steering fluid "Pentosin". It is causing confusion. Pentosin is a brand. The short list of fluids they make is: synthetic engine oil of various weights, 12 different power steering fluids, g12 and other german coolants and Dot4 brake fluid of about any type, color or flavor you would ever want. They make so many different fluids for german cars. The spec may call for Pentosin brand Dot4 brake fluid, but not Pentosin brand power steering fluid.

And I have to confess, I used to call it Pentosin too until I realized they made everything except for ****** and vaccuum cleaners. And I bet they are probably looking into merging into that market too.

Find out which Pentosin fluid your mechanic used before you tear into your car. Just my .02. The power steering fluid is usually green in color. It looks kinda like Absinthe. I would smell the brake fluid and then smell the fluid out of the power steering resevoir for a comparison too.

Excellent distinction there about the brand versus the fluid. That could certainly be a source of error in the communications between the shop, me and this forum. I'm going to see specifically which fluid they used and report back.
