Can a GT2 owner confirm?

What fluid is used in the front reservoir for the clutch actuation? Pentosin or DOT4?

Thanks

I am not a GT2 owner but I did do the GT2 hydro conversion, and it is DOT4. Pentosin will destroy the GT2 seals in a nanosecond.

Thanks for the reply. How did you determine that pentosin will damage the seals?

Pentosin eats rubber and plastic for lunch and goes back for seconds. One of the forum members did the GT2 conversion and used pentosin, and had to replace the slave a few weeks later. If you read the conversion directions it is very clear on how to bled and flush the lines back to the slave. I replaced my cap with a DOT4 one.

So here's my situation. The shop just did the conversion and put pentosin back in. They looked at the GT2 fluid spec and determined that pentosin is the fluid used in the GT2. So I'm trying to figure out if I have a problem or not.

Blockhed - which lines?

The lines will be fine. They are already pentosin compatible. It is the slave that will be damaged. Replace it and flush the lines. I used two of the big DOT4's to flush.

Did the shop not follow the directions? EVOMs is very clear on this.

fyi use a Motive bleeder to force all of the pentosin out first, it makes the flushing easier.

I put the kit together myself rather than the evoms kit. The tech at the shop had done the conversion before. This shop is incredible and I have yet to see them make an error.

I appreciate the link and I understand that the evoms kit uses DOT4 and supplies the cap. I supplied the cap to the shop as well. But I can't seem to find what fluid is used in the stock GT2. If the GT2 uses pentosin, then there should be no need to flush the system. The 996TT has pentosin in all of the lines.

Just looking for some confirmation on the stock GT2 setup.

crap. Is this from the Porsche manuals directly? Thanks for finding the reference. I couldn't find it anywhere.

yup you can download them from the sticky at the top of this forum.

I would first flush with DOT4 then replace your slave, master, and the GT2 hose.

GT2 slave part number 996 116 237 90 ($125.25)
GT2 master part number 996 423 171 06 ($64.50)
GT2 hydraulic hose 996 423 377 90 ($115.25)

The GT2 master will also get ate. I had my indie put in the Evoms kit and the master cylinder lasted 2 days. Evoms speculated that the system was not fully cleaned of pentosin and that ate the new GT2 master cylinder. Lucky it was an easy cheap repair up under the dash.
