Anyone ever change color of their car by "wrapping" it? How does it look? Does it last? DOes it damage paint? Thanks.

Thanks guys.
Mr. White-- are you happy with it? My concern is that the finish looks too much like vinyl and not enough like an OEM paint. But I've never seen on in person. I'm considering wrapping my seal gray to be glossy black (need a change after 7 years!). Have you seen a glossy black? How does your white look up close? Thanks for great pics. Gary

It won't look like OEM paint, but it way cheaper than a full paint job (ie taking the car completely apart). Lot's of people opt for flat color (esp black). The downsides, it won't last as long as paint, you can get tears in it, and find a really good installer. I think the girl in the picture two posts is a accomplished installer.

I was going to track it so opted for a bit thicker which was a little vinyl-ish. Also sheet's weren't full width so the seams could be seen close up.Originally Posted by GBG

I have however seen wraps that look just like paint. Especially popular for a while around LA was the granite gray and flat black. If you're going to do black make sure you wash all the time or your car will look kind of sad/dirty most of the time.
How easy is it to live with a matte black one? I know when I was buying an M3 the frozen black/grey cars were requiring more special care, but is it still the case with an aftermarket wrapped rather than painted car?
Does anyone know what this typically cost on average for a good install?
Look to spend a few grand on a wrap. I've had quotes around 2-2.5k and then I started looking at xpel and satin guard. If your looking for the matte look but with clearbra protection take a look. Im not affiliated with them in any way but I'm still heavily considering a full wrap since I drive on the highway a lot for long distances at a time (NJ/NY to PA/DE) and delaware already has bugs everywhere. I really hate having to wash bugs off my bumper again after just having washed it just because I went for a long drive lol.
That's not bad for a full wrap. It's nice to completely change your color when you want.

I have done a few wraps on my cars now and that price you are being quoted has a pretty hefty Porsche tax levied.Originally Posted by GBG
The quote I got All In was nearly $5k. Included removing zome parts to do first class job. I am considering but am still a bit gun shy.
A first rate shop doing a high end job shouldn't be over $3500 for your car. If you shop it a bit I would think $2500 is very realistic.
Of course these are west coast prices where there are plenty of hungry shops Who do wraps.
