Guys,

my PCM2 starts clicking upon startup when a cd has been inserted prior to startup and fails to load the navigation.....keeps saying loading........anyone have any suggestions besides completely replacement. I prefer the stock look so i know my options are limited.

the clicking sound that comes from the cd player would equate to a dirty optic lense?

regular cd's play with absolutely no issues.

Is the cd jammed in there? I had that issue before in one of my previous cars where the motor that pulls the cd into the device jammed the cd in a certain way that the cd insert sensor kept tripping and reactiving the motor that pulls the cd into the tray.

cd isn't jammed at all......it comes out and goes in just fine......sometimes the sensor will a game back and forth but if you leave a cd in there and start up the car it will start clicking for a while before it actually starts playing or state there is no cd at which time i have to remove and reinstall the cd.

Well, I am not going to give you a 'rifle shot diagnosis' from here...but in general, data on a DVD is much higher density than a CD. AS the data is read off the disc, if there are errors the system tries to 're-read'... as the head begins from the start track it will try and pick up the data- if it continually gets errors it will reset and retrack- this can make a clicking sound.

I've had this issue on other nav drives- CDs no problem, data DVDs a problem. Clean optics and it worked.

But, as I said, it can be many things and NOBODY will be able to diagnose it outside of a few engineers that designed the PCM. (And even then they too will need to open it or attach it to a testbed.) So try the easy stuff, then once you reach the tipping point replace it.

Take unit out of car, take the metal bracketing off the actual unit to expose the inside of the CD unit. Take more apart to get to the laser mechanism, use a q-tip with 90% Isopropyl alcohol, and reassemble.

Otherwise dealer or indy.
