New Alternator

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, and have a question about aftermarket parts for a porsche (2001 911 turbo).

I think the alternator just died on me, and i'm looking for a replacement for it. Except stealership and autopartsway, I don't know where else to look.

Does this one look decent (both quality and price) http://www.autopartsway.com/PartList.cfm?Porsche/2001/911/Turbo/3.6L_H6/allB/Electrical,_Charging_and_Starting/Alternator_*_Generator_and_Related_Components/Alternator/pagenum1/tabS

Actually, I just found one on Advanced Auto: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Professional-Preferred-Remanufactured-Alternators-Bosch_16070165-P_11_R%7CGRPALTSAMS_1335475709____

Or where else should I be looking to find a replacement?

THANKS!

Mine is a auto with tiptronic. Do I still need the one with clutch pulley? This is the first time for me to work on the Porsche. Noob Qs have to be asked.

You are awake sir! The is no noob question on this board

In fact you don't need the clutch pulley. The link I give you previously will guide you to other sites for good DIY on alternator replacement. Are you sure it is not only the regulator you need to replace? Again read the thread that I give you. May be you will save some money

Hey,

Thanks a lot for the link, great info there. I actually went to two shops, they both told me that the alternator is dead and needs to be replaced. But they were gonna charge me like $13XX. Later I found that there is a DIY on this board about replacing the alternator, so I'm just gonna follow that and see how much I can get done. I could save that money for something else, KW or PSS10
