Launching tips for 996tt

Going to the drag strip on Wednesday for fun. I could launch my previous car pretty well, it was a 2004 STi with 20g + meth. Rev to about 4k rpms and feather clutch and release on upswing. But that was a different awd system, my 996tt just wheel hops when I do this. My 911 is an EPL flashed, stock suspension car. Any tips would be appreciated from the pros!

Here is a video of me launching my car at 5200 rpm and slide stepping off the clutch keep in mind though I have Softronics launch control software it builds .2 bar of boost at 5200rpm's.

Well to tell you the truth that video is the one and only time I have launched my car like that I only did it for R/D purpose lol. I don't think awd cars should be aggressively launched to often or at all for that matter to many expensive components to break $$$ IMO. Just take her easy when you launch your car I would launch around 3500 - 4000 rpm and side step it the clutch. good luck!

You have to find the sweet spot with type of launch....With my powerband,,,I let the clutch out a 3500RPM while slowly giving it more gas pedal AND then when the clutch if fully out I have the pedal to the floor......That seems to be the smoothest and easiest way on the drive train for me......Good Luck.....Practice makes perfect.....

My tip is don;t over think it, at 3500 slip out a little and get on the gas and she'll go. When my car was semi stock, lol, I managed to do 1.7's all day on the pole positions. Just remember NO DUMPING. On the 1st pass don't worry about the car next to you or the time, see how the car feels and what it acts like. Keep us posted and good luck.

Thanks Yea I never dump, I just don't want to be breaking axles and such since it's about 47 degrees out now in godforsaken Detroit and I have zero traction. It will be my first time at the strip so we'll see how I do. Thanks for all the tips guys! Hopefully I don't embarass my car and 6so

Practice practice practice. Keep your expectations low and you will not be disappointed. These are NOT drag cars. If you have any kind of power and don't have drag radials or decet tires, be prepared to spin. Don't overrev either..no need...

Yea I won't be dragging the car much, mostly autox and road racing. But I do want to see what she'll do in the 1/4 mile so I can shut some vette owners up locally Also shift points, do you guys go to redline or shift earlier since peak tq is prolly around 6k. Thanks

What ever your redline is, shift there in 1st and 6500 the rest of the time. Obviously try not to hit the limiter.
