2002 GT2 U.S. Spec No Warranty
2002 GT2 U.S. Spec No Warranty
U.S. Spec car with Euro delivery. Warranty ran out 7/03. Individual is asking $130k. Car has 5,000 miles. What effect does no warranty have on the price? Is it worth getting a third party warranty for $5-6k?
I was originally in the market for an 2002 or 2003 Turbo until this came along.
I am not a "professional" driver by any stretch so I am a bit concerned about drivability...
Also, any input on insurance differences (Turbo vs. GT2) would be greatly appreciated. I heard Chubb is the best to use?
Thank you.

have u seen the car yet?
130k sounds sweet for GT2 but without warranty is really scary too IMO.
this is hard one because u can pick up a new 03 TT after tax for about the same money, so it really comes down to which car do u need. it depends on where u live, what car do u have now and etc...
but like u said, u're not "professional" driver & u're concerning the everyday drivability. sounds like a TT is gonna fit u better.
is it ur weekend fun car or u have to drive it everyday? think about that too
as for insurance, i used Allstate. my agent is stupid enough to a point that they only have regular 911 and GT2 on their list, and the $ difference is around $200 for 6 month
. for me, only $60 difference from C4S to TT.
hope this help!

I live in Florida and only plan on using the car on weekends and maybe going to dinner during the week. I don't plan on ever driving 10/10 but I would like to experience 6/10 or 7/10 of the car's ability.
Hopefully some GT2 owners could chime in and give me their impressions?
Thanks

I would stick with a US spec car, that car will be reallyl hard to sell down the road.
I would also get the tt if you don't have a lot of driving experience. The GT2 will bite you hard.

Not a good idea to buy a European spec car here in the US even with a US title - the value of the car is 1/3 less than a PCNA car.
If you want to trade the car later to a dealer, most dealers don't
even take grey market cars in trade.
This GT 2 is one of the very first with the first generation brakes -and with no warrenty on this high maintance car - big mistake.
You will spend an arm and a leg on keeping this car running.

This car is a European GT 2 with US specs - Not European delivery !!!! The Original factory warranty on this car was - as in Europe and Germany standard - two (2) years.

The car IS a U.S. spec car.IS
I have been told when you take European delivery the warranty is only good for 2 years.
The MSO says produced to U.S. Specifications.
How is the GT2 higher maintenance than the Turbo?

PSI Germany- Are you speculating or do you know the car I am talking about?
I have the signed MSO from Porsche dated 02/07/02 that shows "produced with U.S. Specification"???
My local Porsche dealer says everything is original and no wrenches have been taken to the car.
The brakes however are steel vs. composite which the dealer thought was strange but he said I was better off.

Why would European delivery knock time off the US warranty? If so that is one ***** !@#$%^& rip-off! Why oh why would anyone let them get away with that? Maybe Sean knows as his car was European delivered this past summer. Anyway, if you are just tooling and not fooling you should be fine in a GT-2. If you want driver's aids, and they work, trust me, then get a turbo. There are one-year old '03 X50's around for 115K.
sld7,
I have seen the car and looked at it close. It is a good buy for about $ 100,000 but not for 130,000.
Your dealer paid 105,000 for it and at this price level you are O.K.
Otherwise you are much better off with a correct US car from PCNA (like 02 or 03 Turbo).
Send me a private e-mail if you need more details.

You are entitled to your opinion, BUT YOUR FACTS ARE DEAD WRONG
The car is full US spec, but since it wasn't delivered through Porsche NA the warranty is different which has already been explained to this potential customer. The car was checked out by Braman Porsche before being purchased, and they told us the car was 100% US spec. You need to get your facts straight, because your comment about us owning the car for $105,000 is completely inaccurate, and I have the bill of sale and canceled check to prove that your number is WAY OFF. If you can get me a 2002 US SPEC GT2 for $105,000(even without warranty) I will buy everyone you can get me.
So as far as your "expert opinion" goes, I think you need to get your facts straight.

AMG ETR,
this car is not a US - Porsche North America car - that is why you have only two years of warranty - which expired in July 2003.
A car from Porsche Cars North America - ordered and delivered by a US dealer - has 4 years / 50000 mls warranty - no matter what.
Also cars with European delivery have the same warranty, because these cars are with and through PCNA.
The car you are talking about here does not qualify for any of these parameters and is therefore a grey market car with much less value - approx. in the US $ 100000 range, as I stated in my post earlier.
