Best overall sports car for $60k? Nissan GTR, 996 turbo S or 993 turbo??
Most likely a $60K 993TT will have something like 50K miles and not appreciate at at all. On the plus side it might only depreciate $10 - $20K over its life time but it is probably the most costly car on the list to maintain. That said, I'm still considering getting one but for fun, not investment purposes.
Thanks for all the replies so far.
In regards to my children, I was planning to have my 12 year old (80#) sit in the passenger seat and have her younger brother sit behind her in the backseat. I know on the 996TT you can deactivate the passenger airbag. I would expect the front passenger airbag can be turned off in the GTR as well. I will have to confirm this with my local dealer.
It sounds like the 993 turbo might not be a good choice after reading some of the comments. I definitely do not want a car that is maintenance intensive and costly. In regards to the GTR, it just seems to be an excellent all around performance car like the 996 turbo, but raised the bar. Significantly?
The one thing about the 996 turbo that concerns me a little is the fact it would be my third 996, which could get a little old and familiar maybe. Then again a modded 996 turbo would be lots of fun too.
The M3 concerns me from a depreciation standpoint. I have looked at 2009's which sell for high $40's and i am sure it will continue to depreciate much faster than the others.
In regards to safety, is the GTR and 996 just as safe for children in the event of an accident as an e90 M3?

Seriously man. These are your kids. March your butt to the nearest 911 and shoehorn yourself in the backseat and then repeat in an M3. Which one do you feel safer in? Sure they are smaller than you. So fricking what????
Accident survival is about staying in the airspace around you during an accident and not plowing into hard surfaces. You want your kid in the back of a sports car so you can have a midlife crisis?
I mean really....

I understand and appreciate what you are saying and you have made me reconsider my choices. However, I personally don't believe that bigger is always better, such as Escalades, Land Cruisers and similar 4 wheeled behemoths. In fact, I think they are less safe on the road, since these vehicles are boats and much less likely to avoid an accident due to their ponderous abilities. However, I would prefer to be in an Escalade than a Prius head on. With that said, is a Prius, which is larger inside safer than a 996 in an accident?
My kids are number one and I would never sacrifice their safety for my fun. This is why I discussing the topic on the forum.

The airbag in the passenger seat automatically shuts off if the passenger is less than 100lbs (I believe). My 95 lbs petite daughter has tested this theory, depending on how she sits, it disables.
I do know the GT-R is loaded with airbags. I'm not positive about the backseat having any available... I think it comes with 6 airbags... Where they are, I'm not sure anymore (they don't deploy regularly in my car).

I'm assuming you aren't taking the bus to work now so you have something to drive and you should keep whatever that is if its family oriented and haul the kids in that.

Edit: BTW, the new M3s will eat 993TTs for lunch and do it pretty effortlessly. Dont underestimate them.
