Performance/Stability Issues with 19" or above rims?
Performance/Stability Issues with 19" or above rims?
hey guys
last week i've visited my local Porsche Dealer because i'd like to get rid off the standard rims. i had 19" or maybe 20" rims in mind. but he said that the turbo would perform at its best with 18" rims. if mounting 19" and abouve cornering ability etc. would be worse. his recommendation is to stay on 18" rims..
but if i look at the past topics concerning wheels and rims most of you guys have 19" and above mounted on the turbo. is that really a downgrade for the car? what's your experience concerning rim size?
btw i have PSS9 installed..
thx for your inputs

Defiantly stay away from the 20" wheels. You can do the 19" for the street (as most of us have), but make sure you stay with-in the correct tire size / ratio front to back (235/35/19 - 315/25/19). You'll notice a different "ride" feel with the 19" compared to the stock 18". It will defiantly handle better with the 18". Some people have triggered the PSM around corners with 19".
If you plan on taking the car to the track, make sure you stick with the 18" and mount some R-comp tires.
Also as your car is lowered, I would get a wheel alignment all around, check the rear camber settings so that you do not wear out the rear tires prematurely. I would at least get the rear upper links if you do not have them.
Let us know who you make out.

You will lose performance as you move from 18 to 19.
People will say 'for street use it will be OK'....It is a trade of that many make. I won't, given the road surfaces I tend to drive on.
