Throttle Body / Intake Distributor Seal

I'm planning on cleaning my throttle body, and in the repair manual it warns you to always replace the seal between the intake distributor and the throttle body. I see two possible seals at pelican on this page:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...pg4.htm#item20

but they're only for the Carerra and Carrerra 4. Do you guys know if we use the same part and which one if we do? The Carerra 4 part seems to have a little tab at the bottom.

Thanks in advance!

PS. I'm trying to resolve P1130 / P1128 codes. I'm doing this along with a leak test before I drop the $250 on a new MAF sensor.

Unless you are going to take it all the way out of the car, then no need to replace those. If you just pop the Y pipe off you can see the butterfly.

Doh! I got it. right... I'm looking at the instructions for removing the throttle body. Of course, i'm skipping that last step and just removing the Y-pipe... Thanks Chad.

No problem, you don't want to remove the TB unless you like pain!

Interesting, I removed my TB when I installed a new oil pressure sender, to provide more clearance per the manual.

I torqued the TB to spec, no problems or codes since. I wonder how necessary it is to replace this o-ring if it's not damaged ? It actually wasn't very difficult to remove and re-install the TB.

EDIT: I just checked the repair manual, and it only recommends replacing the seals if necessary. So if it's fine, no need to replace.

How hard is it to clean the TB? I have some rough idle on warm startup that I want to resolve. I tried to find a DIY but couldn't find any for the turbo. A shop was going to charge me $200.

It is easy, just remove the ypipe and clean it.

Like I said above, I cleaned mine while it was out, although I don't think it's necessary to remove it to clean, you could do a good job without removing.

Get some TB cleaner. Here is a generic cleaning link.

Have you downloaded the 996TT repair manual ? You will find instructions on removing the y-pipe etc.

Yep, I downloaded the repair manual, but the pictures are hard to follow for me. I have 0 experience working on cars so maybe thats it. And I have read some people started getting check engine lights after cleaning or unable to re-install.... maybe I am paranoid.

If you do attempt something like this, I'd see if you can find a friend to show you the ropes. I'm pretty green as well, but I've had my dad around as I've tried to work on my car and he's been invaluable.
And definitely don't drop anything in the engine bay... That leads to all kinds of bad times...
