Potential 996 Turbo owner; looking for information and opinions

yeah I've really been keeping better track of what going on on my Rennslist thread:
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...rmation-1.html
but basically we offered him $40k, he said no, now we're at $42.5 and he won't budge from $43k. Hoenstly, a few guys on Renns found some other similar cars, and I went on autotrader and found a few; I'm going to shop around some more.
here's the list of the ones I've found that are OK. Two are from actual Porsche dealers.
asterisked ones are Porsche dealers.

let me see what you guys think. I'm liking the two at the dealers, and the black one in Chicago..... time to look around some more, because now my father has made ti apparent that he wont mind a few extra dollars or a quick plane ride for one that will be worth it.

When I decided to get newer Porsche 3 years ago I specifically went looking for a car with TIP (I'd always had manual P-cars before). Got an '04 996 TT Cab and have never regretted going with the TIP. Have done many mods and the car just "goes". City or Highway. Can shift or not depending on mood (mostly I shift and installed paddle shift steering wheel from Carnewal). By the way, I was 65 when I did this. You do the math on my age.

Last month i bought a 01 TT that was traded in. No books so I called the Dealer servicing it. It checked out clean. It's lapis Blue with black int, manual. Only a small scratch on the door. Car is very clean. 6k miles on Mich. tires. Bought a durametric and it checked out nicely. only one type 2 over rev at .6hrs. . Car has 38k. i paid 38,800. Out the door was 43k, tax title and lic. i may have paid a few bucks too much but am very pleased. Did a FVD flash, bmc filter and fabspeed exhaust. NOW, I'm very pleased!

Wow, n360rb, phenomenal deal.
jbaker,
Having just gone through the shopping experience myself, I would also pass on the car, even if the dealer came down to 42.5K, as I think you could find much nicer in the price range you're looking for.
It doesn't sound like the car has been well taken care of and personally, the cosmetic issues would bug me in the long run as I'd always wonder if I could have gotten something without the blemishes for the same price, or paid a little more for a cleaner version.

the porsche search is on pause since my father is now looking for a winter car/a car for my brother who is getting his license soon (range rover, most likely)
I'll still be looking around.

I guess you are right. I feel like the prices went up a bit towards the end of the summer/beginning fall and are either really high now meanwhile there are less for sale right now than usual...

You're also on the other side of the country...unless it's a really good price it wouldnt even be worth it to fly there then ship it back to NY...
