Just got a 2005 Turbo S (996) a few days ago which has been well maintained by the previous owner with all scheduled services done at the dealer.

An independent Porsche-only shop offers extended warranty for about $1500 per year.

Should I go for it?

 

Sounds expensive. Of course I'm talking US warranty.

I had a warranty and never used it. Car was good.

 

I'm having the same dilemma. purchased an 01 996tt w/ 40k miles and am currently shopping for a warranty. Pricing appears to be in the $3300 range for 3 years of coverage. Not sure who insurers in your country. Good luck and let us know what you do.

 

When I looked at those for my '01 I couldn't find any that could cover a car 10 years old....

Depends on how mechanical you are. Daily driver or week end toy ?

 

I'm not mechanical at all. It has 86k km (55k mi) on the clock (50% highway). I'll drive it 3-4 times a week, so not a daily driver but more than just a weekend car. I'll be putting about 12000 km (7500 mi) per year.

Advice?

 

I've been getting quotes from my local P-dealers (one of which is a contact of mine) who sell the fidelity warranty's. I was quoted for their "power train" & "silver" packages. For the $250 deductible, power train warranty, 3 x 36k was was $2800 & silver was $2900 respectably. These prices were quoted with a friendly discount of $3-400 FYI. The platnium was $12k . FTR Easy Care powertrain warranty quoted me $4,050 for their bottom of barrel powertrain.

I'm considering the Porsche Roulette wheel after I digest all the service records I can get my hands on. It's a gamble either way in my eyes.

I think you have enough support in this forum for mechanical issues . In reality the car has low miles , as long as its been maintained which it looks like it has . I have 105k on the clock . Some issues but nothing that couldn't be fixed .

Look an 'extended warranty' is a legal contract, so unless you understand precisely what it covers, what it excludes AND WHO IS LEGALLY OBLIGATED TO PAY THE CLAIMS, it is hard to evaluate the proposition. Is this a 'private agreement from the shop'? If the engine blows next week and they say "sorry, get lost" what will you do?

For 1500 that is not much, but it is very expensive if the contract is worthless and any time an issue comes up they claim it is 'wear and tear' or 'maintenance' and 'not covered'....

 

On second thought , I didnt realize where you were from . I dont know if they have enough rep. shops where you live. I would do the warranty .

 

YES,,,just as long as its a reputable company thats been around and your shop honors it....I have always been ahead of the game with one....lol...Do a search to learn more,,their are a few threads on this topic...Good Luck

 

I've owned my 04 for 2 1/2 years. One alternator. That's it. Don't see the need for a warranty.
