Bare-Bones Basic Extended Warranty
Bare-Bones Basic Extended Warranty
Good Evening Folks,
I’m really looking for a warranty that would cover a 2002 P-car in the event of some catastrophic meltdown as opposed to minor day to day bugs. I know there has been a million warranty-related threads on this forum. I’ve been reading through them and see that opinions and experiences have been very mixed. This thread might be yet another. I apologize.
The bottom line that I am looking for is what warranty “should” I get to cover a preowned 2002 996TT with about 35K miles that will see about 8K to 10K of miles per year? The operative word here is “should”. What is the bare minimum that I should have to protect myself? I see prices between Warrantech and Fidelity bouncing all over the place between $1300 to $6000. But given the common list of things that do go wrong on these cars, what really is the cheapest and best option to go with? Would one of these warranties even cover an IMS problem or a major engine meltdown? I don’t want to pay for something that realistically I’d never use or that would deny the claim.
Regards,
John

Great question, also need to consider your plans (mods) for the car and if any of these would still cover or toss you on the first claim.
I do not have a warranty an have had my 01 for >2yrs and have only added brakes/chip/exhaust/suspension/DV. Only maint issue I have had (knock wood) was a leaking coolant expansion tank. Pretty solid cars when treated with respect.
