Yep, my height is the prime reason I ordered sunroof delete. I drive with the seat full down and full back (fore/aft) and even with sunroof delete still barely brush the headliner with the top of my head if I don't slump a bit.

There is no "moon roof" option on the 996. It is a sunroof so it is made of metal not glass. There is no need for a shade. You just shut it.

The only reason I didn't get a GT2 (and this may sound dumb) was they do not have a sunroof and it would be a crime to add one. Hence X50 996.

At the end of the day, it's just an option, on the same lines as getting a carbon fiber steering wheel or interior package. Some people say they just "need" to have it, while others may think it's nice, but don't really care and wouldn't let it make or break their search for a car, and others who plan on tracking the car and do not want it.

I'm glad I have one... in case I ever want to use it. So far, I've opened it twice, once on the test drive when I bought it, and once when I wanted to see how loud the noise would be with it open while driving on the highway.

So, having one obviously isn't that big of a deal to me, but I'd rather have it than not.

The sunroof was not an option on the 996 Turbo Coupe, it was standard. The option was "sunroof delete" (a no cost option).

I'd personally have paid more for a car with sunroof delete...but that's just how I roll.

Unfortunately for me, I have a sunroof (which I've never opened in 3.5+ years of ownership).

I'm aware of that. The "option" is whether you want it or not. Geez some of the people on this site are nitpicky with words...

You associated the sunroof with options like a carbon fiber steering wheel option or an interior package option (..."it's just an option, on the same lines as getting a carbon fiber steering wheel or interior package"...). The sunroof (for U.S. Turbos) was not like either of these options. Someone ordering a 996 Turbo did not have to decide whether or not to order the "sunroof option" the same way he had to decide to order the "carbon fiber steering wheel" option or one of the "interior package" options.

My first 996TT was a 2001 Speed Yellow with full carbon and the sunroof delete option. God was that a cool car.
