pretty sure i read that if you mess it up you have to buy a whole new cluster, thats why so many people are unwilling to diy and take it to the stealer instead

A non-turbo 996 will not have a 200 mph speedometer. (I think it's only 180)

Not by the dealer. I haven't heard of anyone else who fixes them either. Your best bet is to get a used Turbo cluster from somewhere - or if you have nothing to loose, try to fix it yourself. If the needle isn't moving at all, you may have pressed it on too far. Did you see my writeup on the gauge face DIY?

Link fixed - There seems to be a problem with the quick edit links... It's not in the DIY section, but you can search on the title if the new link doesn't work for you.

thanks man, wish i had seen that before i did mine, but i figgered it out, the end gauges were a bit of a mystery, so i take mine out today and fool with it, it osn't too tight, i don't think...we'll see, and i may go with only the center tach guage in yellow, the quality of mine are great, until you turn on the lights, these are about 4x as thick as original and light coming thru doesn't seem to be centered and so night light is harder to read, anyway, thanks again for the help

My friend is a tech at the dealer told me log time ago you need to know what your doing otherwise you will screw up the cluster.... that was after one of my friends attempted to do what you did.... thus broken cluster...

so another chapter, i won't say 'final' cause i know better, but the tach is being repaired for euro 400, as i crunched the little 'almost a wheel' and i quote from the tech, as is my wont, better than the euro 2680 +vat(19%) from porsche zentrum...feeling lucky at my good fortune is still a spendy little #, got my own boot machine...
