ok, neext, i got around the gauges, but
and they look great, by the way, but my tach doesn't seem to move... yes, i broke it but didn't i read that it is possible to take it apart and put back together a gear that moved? i hope, the consensus? am i up for a new tach, or...and as always, tia,kk
oh oh, hope you're wrong but with my luck you aren't, so, can i go ebay and if i find one does it have to be from a turbo or can i get away with other 996's with tip...
Not by the dealer. I haven't heard of anyone else who fixes them either. Your best bet is to get a used Turbo cluster from somewhere - or if you have nothing to loose, try to fix it yourself. If the needle isn't moving at all, you may have pressed it on too far. Did you see my writeup on the gauge face DIY?

thanks man, wish i had seen that before i did mine, but i figgered it out, the end gauges were a bit of a mystery, so i take mine out today and fool with it, it osn't too tight, i don't think...we'll see, and i may go with only the center tach guage in yellow, the quality of mine are great, until you turn on the lights, these are about 4x as thick as original and light coming thru doesn't seem to be centered and so night light is harder to read, anyway, thanks again for the help
My friend is a tech at the dealer told me log time ago you need to know what your doing otherwise you will screw up the cluster.... that was after one of my friends attempted to do what you did.... thus broken cluster...

finish thought, i am fortunate to have the money to add, this is a bit more like throwing it away though, at least i tried dammit (cuckoo's nest), but there is really no way to justify , i know
so another chapter, i won't say 'final' cause i know better, but the tach is being repaired for euro 400, as i crunched the little 'almost a wheel' and i quote from the tech, as is my wont, better than the euro 2680 +vat(19%) from porsche zentrum...feeling lucky at my good fortune is still a spendy little #, got my own boot machine...
