My buddy is 70 miles away from home and his temp gauge is flashing red. Temp is 180 but its still flashing red. Is it safe to drive home?

I would call a dealership... he should also have a Porsche Roadside Assistance card in his owners manual packet that has a phone number on it.

Unfortunatley he misplaced his manual and of course a 99's warranty and roadside assistance is expired.
He top off the coolant and it seems to have been the problem. Hopefully he'll make it home.

That is one good thing about Mercedes... unlimited roadside assistance.

FLashing red light means engine overheat or low coolant level...either way - check coolant level and let car cool down for a bit....996s are know to have coolant tanks develop leaks/fail - happened on both my 99 C2 cab and 99 C4 coupe
