Transmission Help

Have an odd repair. Can't place blame but had a a shaft seal replaced at local shop due to leaking. 10k later, similar leak. Took it to a new shop and it tuns out that the bolt holding the joint flange appears to have been over torqued and broken the inner receiving nut which has broken inside the transmission. Hence the oil leak now coming through the joint flange.

My question to the board is, it looks like the repair will require the removal of the transmission which will have to be sent off to repair. Any recommendations for anyone who does this in Northern CA? Prefer to have the repair local if possible. If not, who do you recommend. Transmission will have to be opened to do repair.

If the transmission and engine is out, I am going to replace the clutch. I am putting out 540HP any suggestions?

Any thing else I should have done while the engine and transmission are out?

This does not make sense. The only seal That I can think of would be the stub axle seals. If so there is a few things. The trans does not need to come out. If the seal is leaking after being replaced either it was installed wrong or damage during the install. Or the bearing that supports the diff if worn out and it allowing the axle to wobble. If it is the axle seal, the only one that has a nut behind it that I can remember. You may need to start the bolt then pull the axle out to let the "nut" engage the splines in the spider gear. If they do not know how to do this I would go to someone who does. If in fact that does not work you would only need to remove the diff cover, remove the diff, remove the ring gear, remove the #3 phillip head screws, open the halves of the diff, remove the shaft that holds the spider gear to access the "nut" and replace. 8 hrs or so at most.

I second the assertion that the gearbox does not need to come out. I hate to name names, but please post who has already worked on your car. I will then reply with who you should take it to do get it properly repaired. This is not a major repair.

Regards,

Matt
