Question Buying a Used Durametric?

Just seen somebody selling a used Durametric cable

I've recently bought a new cable myself, but found this 'interesting'

They say it's Software version 3.0.15 and will work on an unlimited number of cars

Price is about 1/4 of what a new version would cost me

I'm guessing they've actually got a generic cable and have copied the durametric software onto disc??

What do you guys think?

The software is available from their website without a login ,so the software shouldn`t be the issue. I thought the security was built into the cable itself. If the cable is legit, the software can come from anywhere. That`s just the way I see it...

tkuwaha is infamous around these parts
There is a professional version of authentic Durametric cable that can be used on unlimited number of cars. It costs a lot more than the standard version (limited to 3 cars), though.

Durametric's original cables had a small box in the cable with a little green light when connected. These cables will not work with the newer V6 software. The older software still works with the TT and has many features. Many of the newer cars and additional features need V6 with the newer cable.

What are you buying the Durametric to do?

If it's to read and clear codes, and to datalog your engine performance, there is a much better option. Kevin at UMW has just come out with a datalogger that will read and clear codes, and datalog your engine at superior data rates. Durametric takes 4 samples per second, UMW's takes 76 samples per second on my laptop, more if your laptop has an SSD. It will cost you more but it's easy to use and much more accurate.

No affiliation other than I use the product.
