K24/26 or 18G?

So I'm banging my head between these two set ups. I thought I had my mind made up to do the 24/18G route and now I'm thinking the 24/26's. Here are my thoughts and hope to hear from tuners and people with both set up experiences. (Currently a k16 with fvd flash) When I do the upgrade I don't plan to do a manual boost controller just wastegates and a 5bar fpr for the moment (injectors if needed when I do the clutch). I assume a 1-1.2 bar boost level obviously depending on tuner and wastegates I use. I know that the 18g is slightly larger than the 26 correct? Question is which set will give me a better powerband with the boost levels being in that range. If I were to go higher boost levels (1.3+)the 18G is a no brainer but I plan to keep the car for a long time and want to keep reliability a #1 priority so it can take the abuse I give her. I've been searching this forum for a comparo between the two and can't find anything. Will the 24/26 power come on sooner than 18g? Which one has a better torque curve? Are they close to top hp gains (at 1.1-1.2)? Fellas tell me where to go! I plan to do this very soon and I'm torn. Any and all advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance,
-Ron

24/26 are old school. 24/18g are pretty old school too but a proven combo. If you want bigger 24/20g..

But the best setup are the Tial turbos. 2860rs if you have a budget or better yet Alpha 28s they are both water cooled and ball bearing

K24/26s are still widely used in Germany. And as far as I know they are made in Germany... these are not K16/24.... thats the big difference...
k24 billets are nice too...

Guys im in a similar debate. Can some1 enlighten me on the power bands of these turbos i.e. from what RPM does a K24/26 start pulling as opposed to a K24/18g or K24/20g vs the TIal Turbos. Thankss guys. I'd like somehting that pulls from 2Krpm right thru to redline.

Also, what are the effects of 1bar actuators. Do they make the 1bar of boost come in all in one go, or do they help hold the boost at 1bar till redline?? Thnanks!!

yazz, 18gs offer fast spool and nice linear power pretty much to redline, as to where regular k24 start to die up top .

20gs, are awesome but you will need to run higher boost and race gas or meth inj to really feel the kick in the pants. they really come alive up top with higher boost.

tial depends on which your talking about. i have gt3076 's hybrids from markski that offers slightly higher spool time then 18gs, like 300 rpms but the car kills to redline ! at any boost level. and she still puts down a 600 whp at .9 bar on pump gas. and well over 700 on the good stuff.

Edit, i have markskis full 800 kit just incase your wondering not just turbos.

and 1 bar actuators are the wastegates springs. they open at 1 bar .the lowest you would be able to go is 1 bar obvioulsy but you can crank it up.

Thanks for your input there!! What sort of rpm do the K24/18g start pulling from. and I am correct in thinking you can convert a K16 to a K24 by machining the hot side and getting a K24 Turbine wheel?

I know what 1bar wastegates do, but i need to know what they do for the power curve, do they make it more aggressive or just help in holding the boost out longer to the redline.

When you find it let Porsche know because OEM turbos do not even do that...
your car idles at 750.. you drive around in the 2000s... how do expect full power at 2k? bottom line is a turbo that fast spooling usually dies up on top.. and vice versa... there is no magic formula...
another thing to consider... are you on stock fuel system? 5 bar? if so a k24 hybrid will run out of fuel at 1.2 bar... even with a 5 bar your at almost 100% injector duty cycle... .. thus you should be asking- which turbo produces the best results for " my type of driving______" at 1.2 bar on pump gas.... and the answer is that most of the k24 hybrids.. be it a billet or a 18s.. or even a K26 all will fall within 2 to 3 miles per hour a 1/4 mile run at 1.2 bar on pump gas with a 5 bar fuel pressure regulator...

Not full power at 2Krpm, just start spooling at 2Krpm. Like what does a stock K16 start pulling from?

either is a good choice. I have a pair of hybrid 16gs that I am going to post for sale in the classified section.

So after talking to Tony @ EPL and Markski (thank you fellas for your wisdom & help!)I've come to the decision of going 18g's. Seems that they are pretty close in performance with each other but my deciding factor came down to price and having a little more room to play with once I do injectors where it seems the 18's will have a little more to give. Also EPL is a 5-6 hour drive away for me where I can get it custom tuned on the dyno and I can talk to the tuner myself where as if I went with the 24/26 package with FVD I have no direct contact with the tuner which is important to me. Not knocking FVD at all as I have their flash on my K16 setup now which I'm very happy with 428RWHP. So I sent my turbos out today to Blouch to get the treatment. Can't wait! I will post new dyno #'s on the same dyno to compare power differences and feel between the quick spooling 16's and the new 24/18's. Thanks to all who posted.
