Another 300ZX TT convert

I traded my 92 TT owned for 10 years for a 03 996TT. Grueling decision, and will always love the Z's. Parts availability was one of the reasons. Over several months of trying Porsches I was amazed how well the Z compared. The intake/exhaust/JWT ECU/3" down pipe Z felt about identical to a stock K16 996tt in a straight line, no small feat. But when I did the same onramps, etc, in the Porsche holy cow what a difference. The Porsche just dug in where the Z started getting squirreley.

I had the itch for something different for several years, but never found anything that was a step up in performance without sacrificing build quality, appearance, and overall sophistication until the 996s came into my price range. Great for you to have both!

That squirreley thing is usually the HICAS trying to steer the rear wheels for you. As you know it has 4-wheel steering. I have that all deleted. Mine has full race internals, over-bore, JWT550 ball-bearing turbos, Z1 SMIC's 700TQ capable clutch..Southbend, 3" specialty Z down pipes and full 3" through exhaust. Larger throttle bodies, dual intakes with a selin translator, Blitz dual solenoid electronic boost controller, fully adjustable suspension, on and on...My weak points are 615cc injectors (limits me to about 615HP max) and I need larger intercooler pipes and she is done. That car rips up pavement off the line and again when the turbos spool, then again in 2nd twice, and a bit in 3rd too. runs mid 12's in the 1/4 mile on street tires. No NOS. I could never sell her. The Porsche is much lighter and with 4-wheel drive gets much better traction and handles WAY better, stops way better, and is way sexy. The Z is a beast. Wish my 996 would sound like my Z. Will try the cheap drill out exhaust mod first. LOL

Welcome. Our Z's are close in output. I have been waiting to put the Z up against my 996 to see which is faster. The Z hits harder, but the Porsche has a much better power band.

Yeh. The Z has more HP and TQ, but the Porsche launches better and shifts easier, and is soooo much lighter, ect. The Porsche has wider tires and all wheel drive. Sometimes I just cant believe how easy it is to drive the 996TT. It is an amazingly well engineered supercar. The takes much more driving skill to keep the Z on the road. When those turbos spool up you get launched like a slingshot. Sometimes that is not good when there is a curve and a cliff ahead of you...Nearly went off a cliff on a mountain run with her once. Thought I was dead. The Porsche would kill my Z on a curvy course, but not sure about the 1/4 mile. That would be close. I will find out someday. I have only been beaten by a 2010 vette in my Z so far. Eat up vipers, all rustangs, slowmarows, and everything else on the street so far. I did smoke a 996 N/A once too. I haven't been road racing the 996TT yet. Haven't owned her long. lol

It loves it. No problems..been on it for about 6 months now. I won't drive w/o it unless I'm putting around or on a long road trip (because of cost). The heat in AZ is hard on turbo charged engines. The toluene makes a major difference.
