I ran Mickey Thompson, ET Drag Radials in 305/35/18 on stock hollow spokes. It was a taller tire that allowed 154 in 4th gear at my redline.. part of the reason I sold the BFG to you is they were not tall enough to get over 150 in 4th and I figured a 4 - 5 shift at the finish would be a deal breaker for a good run..

i actually had those mickeys and just sold them to blockhed. my car is awd and the 315/30 matches the fronts height wise so if im lazy i can just swap rears where 305/35 was taller. im gonna be making good power but i wont get near that mph on the 1/4...

Thanks Eric, it could be worse, it could be another ring and pinion. I have a new set of axles with the upgraded ends on the way and she will be as good as new.

It's a tuner car. It was rigged. It wasn't done with a Pbox. Where was the 40-189mph. It wasn't full weight. You didn't drive it. It didn't happen on an engine dyno. It didn't happen with proper intercoolers. I'm raising the:

Seriously though, well done to you indeed! That's bloody, bloody fast...

Nice run Kevin. Glad to see the new LSD is letting you put the power to the ground. Sorry to hear you broke an axle.

Let me know if you're interested in upgraded inner stub axle flanges as part of the repair. We have our own version that's maintains the stock bolt pattern to the CV. Won't work if your replacements have a bigger CV, but if it's the same size as stock, we can provide something that's better than the stock cast inners.

Regards,

Matt

Shhhh, I cant flaunt it. If TopGun gets pissed and drags his **** off the sofa I'm toast. He has another 70-80 hp and Tq on me, and I dont want him to use it... Heck, he is a bench racer poser anyway (jk, go back to the sofa)

Matt, thanks for a world class product and support!
Just a word about Matt, I spoke to him last night with questions about gearbox rebuilds since I saw some gear oil on my case and thought I broke the ring and pinion or the lSD as I did in TX. In TX I cracked the case and leaked oil form the pinion failure, and saw the same symptoms initially at the dragstrip although it was just breather overflow oil upon further inspection. I mentioned to Matt that possibly the LSD failed and he did not hesitate to say if it broke, he will stand behind it, no questions asked. I sure wish more people were like that.

As for the LSD he built for me it was a 50/80 upon recomendation from Robert at EVOMS. I was a little hesitant to use those specs on the street and sent an email to Matt about my concerns and here was the response: Needless to say the LSD on the street and now the track has been seamless. No one could drive my car and know it has a 50/80 in the gearbox. And it sure does hold the power, car goes straight as an arrow under power!

Hello Kevin,

We're glad to be able to help you out.

As for your question about how we set up the diff, the short answer is that we leave a slightly larger internal gap in the differential. Because the ramp angles are laid over further, allowing the differential to lock sooner and harder, we don't want their to be excessive preload on a car that is street driven. That would tend to make the LSD trigger and lock when you don't really want it to. By making it a little looser what it really does is make it more what we'd call a 45/75 than a 50/80 LSD. When you read on the forums about 40/60 or 50/80 or Porsche's 40/65 LSD locking factors it's all a bit misleading.

For example. Porsche uses the same LSD ramps and ramp angles in their street 996 GT3 LSD and their early 997 Cup LSD. Both are called a 40/65. But the street LSD has 4 brass discs in it. The Cup LSD has 8 moly coated discs in it. They are apples and oranges in how they function and behave. If they were trying to publish the true locking factor as a percentage they'd call the street diff something like a 30/55 and the motorsports LSD something like a 60/85. Even though the ramp angles are the same they are nothing close to similar.

So, basically while we may say that your LSD was set up as a 50/80, all that really refers to is the ramp angles we used. We used the ramp angles that are 50/80 locking percentages in a motorsports build. In a street build like yours, that true locking factor is lower and you shouldn't have any trouble driving your car on the street on a regular basis, but when you really get on it and light them up, the LSD will stock lock hard and completely the way it's designed to. I think you'll be happy with it once you spend a little time driving the car.

In case EVOMS doesn't mention it, you will want to change your gear oil after about 1000 miles of break in. There is some particulate that sloughs off and while most of it makes it's way to the magnet, you want to remove it from the gearbox before you get too many miles on the gearbox to preserve the lifespan of the other components in the gearbox.

If there are any other questions, please don't hesitate to drop me a line and ask.
