I used Direct Express Auto Transport... I believe they're brokers and some people are against brokers but my first and only experience with shipping my car this past September was great.
They took my down payment and reservation on a Monday morning and they had my car on their truck that same day (4pm) in Cali. I had my car by Friday afternoon in Atlanta, GA. I tried some of the other well known and recommended transporters, as recommended by some members, but they wanted $1850+. I got mine shipped for about $1300 total in less than a week, whereas the other shippers would have had me waiting 2 weeks before their trucks would even be scheduled to be in that Laguna Hills, CA area. My transport truck was a covered one (highly recommended) and my car had not a scratch on it.
I will say that my car wasn't individually covered with a tarp within the trailer bed but they did have a shield to protect the lower cars from drips. He put mine on top due to it being a convertible anyway.
If you're not on a budget and don't mind spending $2k, go with some of the above recommended transporters.

i've used several and found asking a few questions helps.
do they use and own their own trucks and have their own drivers.
what options do they have.....upper lower, covered uncovered etc. they will drive thru the desert so there is a lot of sand in the air.
the more involved the transport company is the better of you'll be........there are some that just merge with others and you'll see a Lamborghini parked on a truck with a ford explorer and wonder how those ended up together.
one of my transports was a 3 car trailer, completely enclosed and i had to wait a little longer for them to make the trips worthwhile however this service was awesome and the car arrived and didn't require a detail (they sent it completely detailed).

Kelly at All Coast Auto Transport 561-288-6260 transported the 996tt enclosed rig from CT to FL for $925 when others quoted $1050 - $1285 with intercity being the highest despite "6 speed discount."
