Need advice re: plugging hole in catless straight pipes
Hey guys, I'm going to swap on some switzer catless straight pipes in lieu of the cats on my new-to-me switzer exhaust I picked up from a member a while back. The prior owner had drilled a hole in the pipe in which he inserted an aftermarket exhaust gas temperature sensor. I'm not going to be using any such sensor, so I need to plug this hole. I was thinking I would just source a high-quality worm clamp to cover the hole, which is only about 1/4 " in diameter. However, I got to thinking that this might not hold given the 1200 degree exhaust gases passing through the pipe, and the relatively thin profile of the clamp.
Do you guys think the worm drive clamp will contain the gasses, or do you think I'll generate a leak? Should I just get it welded? What about threading a bolt into the hole? If I go that route, what type of bolt is the most heat resistant (zinc, stainless, etc....). Thanks for the advice!
