Question Need Help To Track Owner! Who Tuned My GT2?

Hi Guys,

I just recently discovered my GT2 was tuned by the original owner. I originally thought this car was stock, but after someone said a reading of 1.2 bar means it was tuned, and after the dealership confirmed this as well, did I believe it.

Anyways, I don't care that it's tuned, but the guy who wants to buy my car now wants to know who tuned it. I have no idea how to track down the original owner and find out.

I'm the 2nd owner on this car, it's a 2002 GT2. It was originally registered in Coppell TX in then the registration was updated to Van Alstyne TX. The car was registered in 2002 and I bought it in 2005.

It went to an Auto Auction in Floria and listed as a fleet vehicle.

I have the VIN #, but TX state can't give me personal information.

Is there any way I can find the original owner, or find out who tuned my car? Maybe downloading a map of the ECU or something?

I would greatly appreciate your guys help.

Thanks,
Stephen

Unless you send your VIN to all the tuning companies and they make time to look it up, probably out of luck...

Wow interesting.. I'm going to give Softtronic a call in the morning. They seem popular. Unfortunately, he said he wasn't interested without knowing who tuned it :-\ so maybe I can get a lead at Softtronic.

There were only a few tuners able to tune these cars in 2005. I bet It's GIAC. They tuned most of the 996 cars back then.

They have a Vin list of tuned cars since they have to authorize by vin #. Give them a call. They are truly nice people to deal with. They may also have an update for you

Don't quite understand your prospective buyer's position. If he doesn't want an unknown tune on the car, couldn't you just have the car flashed back to stock and the buyer can put whatever tune he wants on it? Maybe there would have to be some further discussion about the sales price -- but we're talking about a $1-2K question here? (Unless there's concern that the tune has done some damage somewhere?)

Yeah I really don't know either. I've encountered some really weird people tryig to sell this car lol. 8k miles on it, it's basically new. And I told him to have any mechanic look at it lol Another guy offered me $45k for it

Regardless of what anyone may tell the new owner, if I were him, Id confirm the tune is safe by myself.

I had a similar question with my tuned 996TT. I brought it to experts to dyno and log it. They were able to confirm exactly what the tune was doing.

No one should mess around with this stuff. Relying upon someones word that the tune is safe, regardless of who did it, may result in a big problem. Take ownership of your cars folks!

I have a friend with a 996tt going through the same thing and has had zero help from the dealership that flashed it, nor any of the tuners. One south florida independant shop charged him $65 to scan his ECU and tell him they couln't help him!?!? It is an aggravating thing for somebody who buys a car with an additional selling point that can't track down the tuner.

I agree with Tony. The older GIAC tunes with the diode only let the dash see 0.9 bar if my memory serves me correct. The doide was use in builds that used turbos larger then K24's so 640 plus kits in that 2005 time frame. The GIAC ecu with the diode will not have the look of the one posted but if you remove the covers you will see a diode soldered in.

Ok silly question, where is the DME located? Is it behind the false rear seat area?
