Keeping Track of High Boost

There have been a few threads recently regarding overly high boost, keeping track of high boost, etc. and I thought I would share something that I have been doing for years now. I have a Greddy boost controller "gauge only" connected, but not the solenoid. In other words, the Greddy boost controller does not function as a boost controller, just as a second boost gauge. The beauty of this is that not only do you have a second or backup boost reading, more importantly, the Greddy can be set to save the "highest Boost" reached, until the memory is cleared. I check mine all the time to see the highest boost recorded and then re-set. It will record the highest "spike", so the saved number is a little higher than your actual steady boost, but once you get a feel for it, you will know if your high "spike" is normal or not.

I made a carbon fiber DIN mount to match the interior. Since the first picture was taken, I removed the clear lens, cleaned the blue Greddy label off the unit and replaced the lens, so that is all black and blends with the interior ...

Anyhow, I thought some of you may be interested in adding a second gauge with memory for monitoring and thought I would offer this up...

What about a simple hobbs switch attatched to a bright L.E.D. to alert in an overboost situation?

There are many ways you can monitor boost - I happen to have had a Greddy gauge from a previous tune and left it in place, as a second boost gauge. Having used it for a long time now, I still find the memory feature useful, as it records the high boost for a driving session, which is good data. Definitely not a necessity, but nice to have...I also use it a lot more than the factory gauge to watch boost ,as it reads in .XX vs .X and does not round up or down.

Actually, the original poster PMed me, apologized and removed it...and then I removed my response...just thought I would share a decent option.

I have a Greddy and it does a great job. That is a good use IMO of having it keep the highest boost. Only problem I have found with that is the high boost sometimes spikes if you let off the throttle too fast and you get a quick spike when the TB closes. This would skew the peak boost memory...

It was a pretty rude comment (the one removed), but as an open forum, it is good to know IB did not just delete it as censor...
