The lower part off the tube is under 52mm so I don not feel that shaving down the 55mm step would damage the strut?? Why take the chance on a perfectly good PSS9.. If some one have a bent one to offer up I would love to cut it down and see.
The only thing I would be worried about is if the shock tube is thin drawn to shape verses thicker machined metal. In the end the gt2 upright actuall make suspension choices a little easier. The gt2/3 and c2 all have the same front strut diameters and there are a ton of those setups you can use is they are adjustable enough shocks.

My thought was if the piston rides on the inside then the ID must be consistent? It really don't matter, safety first.
