How much power/speed leaving on the table?
How much power/speed leaving on the table?
I have the EPL K16 flash and have tried a few exhausts (miltek, Switzer catless, FVD straights, sound mod stock- current). How much power/speed am I leaving on the table by keeping stock exhaust with sound mod (drilled)?
Street use it works fine, but I will do a handful of DEs so want to ensure I'm not leaving a lot untapped power behind.
Seat of the pants thy all feel similar with Switzer probably the "fastest". Lap times got screwed with my waterline issue at ThunderHill.
Cheers and Happy New Year!

HI,Question,,Why would you have bought and or taken those all off and go back to stock modified??I can see that the straights would be way to loud... But the others should make betterr power then stock modied??..Also,I would think at your level that they might be all close in terms of performance...Except I would also mod the stock cat set-up also...Good Luck....

Go with a catless stock exhaust (like the one gearhead is selling)in the classifieds). It's probably around 75% of what a standard aftermarket exhaust is (obviously based on stock turbo size), but there's no drone at all. That's what I've currently got on mine and it's very quiet. Too quiet for me, but if you're looking for a no-drone, stock like exhaust it's the way to go.
If I would want to "leave no power/ speed on the table" and looking at the details of your ride, if not done yet, I would FIRST update / upgrade my suspension. Spending 2-3K will most likely give you a MUCH BIGGER bang for the buck. Get some coil overs and an aggressive alignment with negative toe-in and you are going to be way ahead of the game. Then, get a second set of rims / tires 18" and sticky rubber for the DE days and you are going to be unbeatable.... well almost..
We actually dyno'd my car at EPL and found that my FVD exhaust alone was a 19whp/19wtq improvement. Probably not much you would feel "seat of the pants", but your engine will be happier with a free flowing exhaust.
I already have pss9/trg drops/cup tires and corner balanced with decent setup- not too aggressive but still two hands on wheel most if the time.
I pulled the Switzer and sold it when I had my water pipes pull out on me causing a $3k bill. Pissed me off so had planned on selling car for a proper track car- still plan in doing do, just might not be in next 6 months. Car is now sorted with new tires and have fallen back with her.
So 10-20hp and a happier car. Going with larger turbos or hybrid will certainly need better flow, but stock K16 with flash I'm not bad.
My run through all of those exhausts was looking for the exotic wail without fumes and didn't quite find it.

i would say this MAY be incorrect. if your car has no boost leaks, with a good flash and exhaust, the car will preform great. you really don't need one, do we really need any mods? however, with the right 3" exhaust the car runs so much better. the car is breathing.... at the stage you're at this is a big bang.. until you go big, if, you are just chasing this big jump.. these two mods are really the gateway drug...lol i had two different exhaust before going with a BBI. the stock and a trow away which i will not say what, unless you PM me... not only did it add 40hp, it sounds great.. when i first got my car it came with a flash and that was it. i never really felt the effects of it until i put my first exhaust on.. the real test for me was when i sold my second one, had to put back on the OG to drive to put the BBI one on, and drove home with the BBI on all in one day.. i really felt the difference... the pepsi challenge .... the stock exhaust is good for storage in the garage.. or a car with no mods... if i were you i would get a good exhaust and call it a day.. unless you don't have two kids in privet school!!

You may be incorrect at his K16 flash level,,I have seen several exhausts,100 +200 cell systems, on back to back dyno runs..They made more HP then the stock BUT were all pretty close as far as what they picked up over the stock one..I would also have to say that for a NORMAL K24 car with a flash only,I have been there..These are just my findings...Yours is more modified then just a flash....I have not seem or tested a BBI on the Dyno ,so maybe that is the ultimate system??
