Good/Bad experiences with independent dealers?
I don't know about you, but I prefer not to pay $200+ to PPI every car I'm interested in. I plan on using it to confirm what I think I already know about a car or to catch something I can't see. I don't mind spending the money, but I'm not a fan of pissing it away, either.

Your right, you do not want to do that, thats why you wait untill you find one that has the options you must have. Do not consider a car that is not set up the way you want just because it looks ok.
I know I have seen numerous car I thought were almost perfect except for one or two features. I have seen several great cars that were Tips.... Just can not bring myself to owning another Tip. I would not even touch a PDK, my car has to be a standard.

Yep, don't pay for a PPI, until you have found the perfect car, have all of the information you have asked for, THEN have SOMEONE ELSE do the PPI, NOT the selling Dealer/Indy. Whether you pay for the PPI or not it is NOT in YOUR best interest to have them do it. If it's too far away and inconvenient, find an easier car to buy...plenty out there.
If they will not let you take it to another place to do the PPI, PASS. Also, when you finally get to the PPI stage, tell them what you want checked on the PPI, not what THEY want to check. Do a search here, plenty of info on this...
