Next car after 996TT need advice
I have owned an 05 Turbo S with some nice mods for about 12 months. I find myself not driving it due to the clutch pedal (coming from a number of sequential cars) and the lack of handling feel even with coils. Before this I had a GTR which I loved for the performance but could not stand the interior or overall European feel. Getting a euro daily now has me thinking about getting another GTR because I know it will satisfy me from a performance perspective but I am also thinking about another porsche just for the feel. Questions - for those who have been in a 997 turbo with modified suspension how much better is it than the 996tt? I have Pss10 with dogbones and have never been happy with the handling feel. Looks like my options are GT3, 997TT with mods or another GTR. I know the GT3 feels great but I will miss the turbo push. A 997tt seems most compelling if I can really know it will handle well and the GTR is a given from the performance standpoint but really lacks the euro feel I love. Any thoughts on where to go after the 996TT days are over?
Why buy a GT3 if you don't like using a clutch?
If you're thinking about a 997TT and upgrading the suspension you might want to get some advice from some of the guys on here that race their 996TTs
See if you can get a ride in any well sorted 996TTs first
That might help you to decide one way or another - Unless you've already decided against owning a manual car

I had the same situation and went with the 2010 gt3 rs. I don't need 6 million horsepower. I wanted the total package. Speed, handling, brakes, sound and looks. The turbo was nice, but lacked the total package.

Gallardo's are nice, but I struggle with the Audi presence in the interior. Same thing with the Bentley Continental GT, it reminded me too much of a VW Phaeton that I once owned. Give a Ferrari 430 or even a 575/599 a test drive. I love the handling feel of my 360, they have F1 trans and the sound is intoxicating!

I forgot to mention a Gt2 as it seems to have everything I want except the clutch pedal. I think I could deal with a clutch if the car really felt like a sports car rather than a GT. I love the Gallardo and 430 but I really don't fit at 6'6".
i also had an issue with lack of "feel" in the 996tt. By modifying the suspension further, it helped address this issue. if you already have the dogbones and coil overs, your part way there. there's hard rubber bushing replacements for the F/R lower arms. the F/R caster puck can be changed to a solid piece. solid tower mounts help also. I also changed F/R tie rod ends/arms but left the caster arm stock. bet if you made these changes, cost a lot less than upgrading actual car, and it makes a big difference. smaller diameter steering wheel will help too. I've driven both the 997 gt3 and TT, they feel even softer than the 996 by comparison IMO.
I have a highly modded 2002 X50 with PSS9s. An honest 650 HP car.
I traded cars with my father in law for his 07 GT3 last weekend and found the following.
The regular seats are much better even than 996 Sport seat. It's a notch or two better in a 1 out of 10 scale in handling. It's just more "go cart". That's probably the best descriptor. The ride is crude, It's LOW. Then press the sport PASM button and the ride goes from crude to rock hard (or maybe just below that). It's an amazing machine. The redline is great, It's much faster than you expect IF you drive it like it sport bike. Revs up, work it! And it blows you away. the power is very linear but strong! But it's VERY focused on that. It's a race car and you pay for that in the brutality of it all. It's FUN if you're out there flogging it, but its a compromise as a street car. That's not always good EVERYDAY but DAMN FUN.
I bet that if you catch a turbo owner at the light with low revs and work it with a big launch, a GT3 will be hard to reel in... at least for a few hundred feet. If you're honest, turbos can be inconsistent to launch the right way.
The turbo is a better daily and is faster, easier, lazier. It needs a 1 second delay before blurring the horizon like the millennium falcon. But the jump to light speed takes 1 second for R2-D2 to calculate....

How far are you pushing your PSS10s? People like us rarely push them to the limit. I can see that your issue is really not your suspension; it is AWD and lack of the RWD excitement. I think you’ll be happier with a Boxster or a Cayman, or even a Miata. Don’t look for an AWD, you’ll not be happy with that. To me, the turbos are really a total package with the balance between the power/speed and AWD. I need the AWD to keep me honest.
