If you're pulling the pump, I just pulled the PS pump yesterday. Pull the line off of the pump. push the red ring tpwars the pump and pull the hose out. jiggle it and pull, push the red ring in and keep doing it until it comes out. use a screw driver to push the ring towards the pump.

I've replaced this hose a few months ago. Basically what you will want to do, is use 2 wrenches and disconnect the line above the engine, and for this, it may be very beneficial to lower the engine a couple of inches, will not hurt anything as long as you do not go too far. Just watch everything. And while it is a quick connect, in a way, it's not as simple as that. There is a catch inside the line that will not allow you to quick disconnect the line, only connect. So the easiest way will be to use the same 2 wrenches and separate the small fitting on your new line, and insert it into place once the old line is out, and thread it together above the engine, and tighten it well, then plug it into the reservoir. I hope I'm explaining this well enough, but it's really pretty simple once you have access to the fitting. Sometimes those lines can be quite tight, and what you can do is put 2 wrenches in a configureation like ( / \ ) and squeeze them together to get the needed torque to break it loose, and it should spin free. It will make a mess but CLEAN IT THOROUGHLY. Pentosin is nasty. It will melt rubber, plastic, etc if exposed long enough. Once it is broken loose, and you have the end out of the reservoir, you should be able to just spin the hose out, and reverse procedure.

I think he wants to disconnect the whole hose at the junction above the engine, not just pull it out of reservoir....

As I stated above in my post, it is a push fitting but you MUST unscrew it by the procedure I outlined to disconnect. You can NOT just pull on it. I was in the same boat and the credit for the instructions I outlined above must go to my friend Chance who is a certified Porsche mechanic and walked me through it. Let me know if you have any more questions...

Sorry to sound dumb Pwdrhound but the part I dont understand is....'and what you can do is put 2 wrenches in a configureation like ( / \ ) and squeeze them together to get the needed torque to break it loose, and it should spin free.'

I think what is making it harder to understand is that I dont have a new line. Im just trying to get the old one off at the moment. Do you have the part number by any chance??

THANKS AGAIN!
Yazz

I feel for you Yazz , i really do. The good news is those lines are short. The bad news is it looks like they will have to be replaced as well as the pump tank. This is doable. You will have to lower the engine for more room and use two wrenches and pinch them together as stated earlier.

Thanks Todd! TurboTodd.....are u Protomotive Todd?? So pinching the two parts together releases it?? Is that right? And by the looks of it they are both 19mm?? I only have one 19mm wrench I'll go borrow one. So I get 2 19mm wrenches, squeeze them together, then unscrew the connection??

What I was trying to show by (/ \) is the configuration of the two wrenches. Just like Todd said you need to put both wrenches on the connection and squeeze them together to break the connection which is screwed together. Like I said, you need to lower the engine a couple of inches to give you room to work. It's too late now since your reservoir is destoyed but the hose just slides out of the reservoir lid but you MUST push the red collar in TOWARDS the lid. You must also be very careful not to scratch the plastic coating on the hose nipple because that is what forms the seal with the O-ring in the reservoir lid. A special tool is required for this. It is basically an interior paneling removal tool that fits over the red collar and allows you to press it in as you pull the hose out. The reason I had to replace my hose was the fact that the plastic finish on the nipple of the hose was scratched due to improper removal by the prior owner. As a result I ended up with a small leak. The part number for the powersteering return line is 99634744152. It retails for about $134 and wholesale is around $90. Hope it all works out...
