Installing Recaro Pole Position

I've searched a lot over the past couple of weeks, maybe my search skills are lacking but I can't find any definitive answers on the proper mounting of Recaro Pole Position seats in a 996 Turbo. I don't know which bases and rails to use, the Sparco universal ones or the Brey Krause ones. I don't know where to mount the seat belt receiver, on the seat mount or to the floor, if it's to the floor then where and how?

I'd like to hear from people who have actually done this, can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks.

Universal mounts will work but you will need the 996 converter rail so they will mount in the existing mount points. It is a long thin, flat piece of metal with a bend near the front. 2 per seat.

I mounted my seat belt rec to the seat bases (metal uprights), but if you are using them in any DE or racing, you will want to check with them to be sure that is ok, etc.

Did you check with Recaro? I have their Sport seats and they also supplied the install kit. 996 kits are one of the few they actually make themselves.

Awesome thanks, I'm not doing any racing with the car so I think I'll probably use the uprights.

The company that I'm buying the seats through had called Recaro about it and was told that the universal Recaro mounts are not a very good solution. I may phone Recaro directly and ask about solutions.

My Recaro dealer found a specific bracket set for the 996 listed and got it from Recaro USA.

I just mounted the Sparco 2000's and tried using a Brey-K side mount with the Sparco sliders and they would not line up with the bolt holes. The BK were designed to use with the factory rails that are to be removed from the car - no aftermarket base necessary. The directions are somewhat vague, and shows an electric seat in the first diagram in which the rails are being removed. Then, it shows a manual seat in the last diagram in which the hardware is to be used. The rails on an electric seat and manual are different and cannot work in this application. They will be sent back. Maybe BK has their own conversion kit that I am unaware of, but I guess OG Racing is too.

I would make sure Recaro has all the parts first becuase this is the route you want to go. I would imagine they worked it out well for the 996TT. The Sparco's in my car are the "Plus" version and a little larger. This caused a problem with the aluminum side mounts and I had to use the steel instead.

I am really interested in hearing the final outcome of your pole position install including parts used. I am about to get a set myself but have hesitated exactly for the complexity mounting them (what parts, from which company etc).

I know from experience most seats (recaro, sparco, corbeau) from my experience use the same mounting hardware. I have use wedge many times for different seats and they are great but I also know that recaro sells brackets for the 996

I think I've decided to go with ROTtec instead of Recaro, they have everything sorted out already and Ray's been very helpful.
