Did I miss something?

The shoot-out was cancelled five days ago. There is talk of re-starting it. Everyone who had talked of being in the first one is talking of going.

So could someone please tell me:

1) Why was shoot-out one "cancelled"?

I am still waiting to hear...

deanger,

The shoot out that I was working on was cancelled because I did a couple things that put the magazine in a poor position with some advertiser(s). I am not going to go into any further details at this time. It was a learning experience.

Sharkster and a couple others are attempting to set up another shootout. They are attempting to interest another magazine(s) to cover the event. If they are successful, most us involved in the first event are willing to participate in this other event. A lot of people are really interested in learning more about what the tuners have done and how their cars perform in different events, side by side. Many are also interested in seeing how the GT2 stacks up against these super turbo's.

Setting an event up like this is an exceptional amount of work. I wish sharkster and anyone else involved the best of luck.

So then what I guess you are saying is you scared your writer and possible magazine off.

A few questions for you and other participants:

1) Would you do a shoot-out without magazine?

2) Was there a financial isue?

HERE'S WHAT I PROPOSE:

Do your shoot-out. Surely all your hard work didn't have to disappear because Coleman pulled out.

If you need $$, let me know, I'm sure we can raise it on this board.

I know a TON of great writers, we could easily cover this.

Besides, I was never under the impression the shoot-out was live or die for a magazine. Though I understand how you get the best turn-out from other tuners...

I guess what I am trying to say is, I think you'll find A LOT of help here, but by sometimes being mysterious, you make some of us feel like... well... we aren't being told the truth.

Let's make this happen together!

deanger,

Without a write up by a good magazine, why go through all the trouble. If someone really wants to compare their 996tt or GT2 with mine, I have no problem. Let me know and arrange to bring it to the SF Bay area. Something can be set up. There are others who were spending some serious money to get their cars ready and transport them to the West Coast. I am sure the magazine exposure meant something to them. I can appreciate this. Anyway, right now sharkster is trying to pick up where I left off.

The canceled shoot out was not a financial problem. Dave Colman was doing the writing. Rob King at S Car Go Racing was pulling and re installing the drive lines (donated time) along with coordination for hotels and dinners. Each participant was payng a fee (direct cost). It would have been about $500. each for Thunder Hill. It was approx. $150. each for the dyno run and it would have been less than $50. each for the Sacramento Speedway for the drags and braking contest. Michelin, tentatively was going to supply the tires so all cars could be evaluated on the same rubber.

Dave Colman is not the one who canceled the event. As I said before, he just writes the story and submits to the magazine. What is printed is not his decision. In fact I knew it was canceled before Dave was made aware of it. It was a complete surprise to all of us.
