996 w evoms stage 3 kit reliable?
Hey guys, im coming from a modded 335i which i loved, but got rear ended while i was stopped around 35-40mph, im ok, car was pretty messed up, so it got totaled.. i always wanted a porsche and now ive been doin my research...
generally i know these cars are very reliable dd, but i wouldn't b driving everyday, but its nice to know about the reliability...
if i find used 996's that have had motor work done how much of a gamble am i taking and would it b better to just buy stock?
i know this is a very general/previous car owner question based on car.. any help is appreciated...
also.. if car is out of state what service can i use to look at the car and make sure its good to go?
thanks in advance!

Any kit from one of 6Speed's sponsors would most likely never be referred to as "unreliable". But, as you well know, a modified car comes with its own new potential issues. I would recommend having the car inspected for overrevs and if she checks out, pull the trigger.
i think a good general rule is that anything "bolt on" for these cars doesn't impact day to day reliability. that includes *most" tuners kits which at the low to mid end are mainly flashed ecu/exhaust and larger i/c's etc. ( stage 1,2,3 etc. ).
beyond roughly 540/550 crank hp, which is about where *most* stage "3" kits will get you ( though some call 'em 2/2a etc ) and you're getting into the upper end of the the cars OEM limits and the internals' ability to handle the extra power ( clutch/rods etc )
i have a cargraphic kit/tune with hybrid 16/24's, gt2 i/c's and some compatible suspension mods, and the car drives like a vw until i hit it. always reliably.
once you get over 600 hp ( he says without having been there...! ) prepare to build your car accordingly to handle the power, and still maintain some level of day to day driveability.

Stages....wow, old school, I think back in the day a stage 3 would be what we would refer to as a lightly modded car (stage 1 tune, 2 tune and exhaust, etc.).
If we were to extrapolate, many on here are running what would be the equivalent to a stage 8-10 car
with pretty much bulletproof reliability.

Thats crank...assuming no problems, yes, these cars will do that all day for many, many miles. There are a bunch of cars on this forum that have run 750 plus crank w/ no problems. The Metzger GT1 is a racing motor that was mass produced.
there is another car stock i can get for the same price but w only 6000 miles..
i think the modded one would b better as it has a nice bumper/wing/rims exhaust and work done already..
these damn cars are always out of state!
