Exhaust, Flash, Plugs, then see if you want more. I'm in Tucson and drive hard even in 100+ temps in both my cars 996TT and 300ZXTT. I also run toluene in my gas to up the octane which helps significantly to avoid detonation. 2 gallons in a full tank and your set.

I have blown a turbo b4 as well....It happens. They don't last forever.

If you know you want to go all out on the mods, I agree...Do it all at once, and hold on!!!!!!

For everything else, put them in a box and draw them out one by one... and mod them in that order.
...AGREED...Then the 997 short shifter...lol...

if i did it all over again i would save the $ in a bank account , lets say target 15k, and do it all at once.. here's why, you may in fact change your mind on some things and this will leave no room for the "i should of bought" syndrome.. doing it this way will stop the madness before you being!!! suggestion, don't go cheap on the exhaust, programing, brakes, and suspension. Oh, better make that 20k... lol the 16gs with the 997.2 inter coolers will be just about right.... make sure to do injectors too... have fun....

I have a different perspective on this. While it might be most cost-effective and efficient to do everything at once, what this approach doesn't address is that modifying our cars (the research, decision, acquisition, installation and use) can be a hobby in of itself. As such, doing this over time can bring it's own level of enjoyment and satisfaction.

TRUE. However, these are entry level mods.. many have spent 10's of thousands in the beginning. this is a sure way of getting what's good for the level you want IMO. i'm sure after all this it will be something else.... lol

Aims and objectives... Think, how far you want to take it; 480bhp, 520bhp, 600bhp, 700bhp? Bare in mind - it is never enough!

I totally agree with this and have enjoyed modifying my car as a hobby for almost 10 years now. It has been very rewarding and a great deal of fun. When I purchased my car new in '02, I did an exhaust almost right away, then a flash a month later and then a suspension a couple of months after that. It was great to see exactly how each mod changed the car. After a few years, I upgraded turbos/flash, then did an air intake. Later I did larger turbos again, re-map, fuel sysytem, IC's and some intake work. Then installed X73 motor mounts. Then more intake and exhaust work. As Aerodude alluded, choosing the parts, sources, etc. was a lot of fun, became a hobby and the fun went on for many years. Now things are sorted out and I have been enjoying the fruits of many years modding and just loving the final result. There is certainly a lot to be said for this approach.

Thanks, John.

You're right, going through all the stages, doing a lot of the work myself, then watching a lot of the larger jobs be carried out by experienced techs has given me a great deal of experience and insight to the 996TT modding world. And I enjoy sharing what I have learned with anyone that can use my experience to their benefit.

This whole 996TT thing is simply a lot of fun for me and even though we are a manufacturer of Porsche exhausts and some other accessories, it remains my favorite personal hobby, first and a business, second.

This is what is so cool about this car - this forum - and the group of guys on it.

I asked a question: What is the "best sequence" for the performance mods I was considering. Not one person on here said "Idiotic question" - nobody flamed anyone else's opinion - and many people weighed-in on personal thoughts. Hell - I even had quite a few PM's and a telephone conversation with a coupe 6-speeders. How cool is that?

How neat is it that everyone here is wiling to share thoughts, advice and experience?

Very glad that I am a member here. Very.

i agree too.. if read correctly OP was trying to cut to the chase. i was giving my input on this.. save the money, do your diligence, and, well, save that $$$$ doing things twice hurts that bank account!!! just part of the process.....
