Trackday 02-11-2012

So back from the track and I can say wow what a difference does a splitter make at high speeds. The front end is very composed, flat, directional and the car is easy to drive. Turn 1,2,6,7,8,9 I felt a huge difference with the splitter. I was achieving speeds through those bends with ease confidence that I didn’t before. Just look how relax my hands and expressions look. We learned a lot on what’s going on how to fix the issues we were having. (flexing at 165mph) I think we fixed it as it’s very stable now but I would still say this splitter is for track use and not maximum attack high speed. I talked to a few people at the track who have them and they all said they flex as high speeds but that is one thing you have to give up (top speed) and I’m okay with that.
Here is a video so you guys’ can see how composed I’m and on the second video you can see how fast my car because I trust the front end that I can actually keep up with one of those viper comp. race cars.

Yes Eugene. I managed a personal best of 1.55.1 while passing two traffic cars.

you did forget how to drive.

Great driving on the second vid. That's the only track I've been to... it feels like home.

Turn 1,2, 6,7,8,9 are the high speed turns; I'm sure the splitter would help. So, how did you know the splitter was flexing at 165mph? How did the rear feel at that speed?

I had a car go next to me at 170mph...in Mexico ; ) we think we fixed the issue with using zip ties on the front lip to the splitte as i do not want to drill on my bumper nor most pp, and doing a cut out for the high pressure to escape as it bend a 1/8 L bracked ( takes massive force to do that) all done by down force...after our modifications and redesign the splitter was much better : ) ....

As for turn 1, i apex at 103 came out at over 107, i couldnt do that before as i did not trust the front. The splitter is def working. The car fees beautiful. Very neutral.

Looks like a great day out a TH, the first video gave me butterflies! What does a 1:55 translate to for over the the top? That is FAST! What tires are you running right now? Any new performance or exhaust mods?

I have my first event at Laguna March12th with 997VID- any chance you can bring the beast out? It's with NCRC Open group, not sure if it's filled yet. What are your next planned runs?

Cheers-

That is really fast.
What tires are you using that day?

I was suppose to be there on 2/10 event, but I got something came up and missed it

Also, kinda a newbie question, do you prefer to drive with your PSM on or off while on track?
Never driven a car with such big power on track before, a little bit scared to turn it off. lol.

If your relatively new at this use the PSM it WILL save your butt. Make sure to have good tires and brakes though as the PSM will get a bit more aggressive otherwise. I had mismatched tires and wore brakes at Laguna a few years ago and PSM was all over me. Had to turn it off and still the Antilock was freaking out. Got new tires/brakes and it was much happier. Even with PSM on you van hang it out a bit before it reels you in. For a >$40k investment it might be better to let the nanny have her way.

Enrique knows his car very well and spends most of his time >55mph he might have different opinions.

Either way get to the track- soooo much fun!

My forecast is telling me I'm free on Saturday; but you know how the weather (women) goes. Let me know by Friday if it will be ready so we can setup a time.
