Warning/heads up - 2002 Porsche 996 TT Silver on Black - VIN: WP0AB29972S685178

Listed on Auto Trader in Fredericksburg, VA.

Received the story on the car from the lot owner (2nd owner, first being a female), that led me to do a PPI on it and consider purchasing it. PPI completed at Porsche of Arlington (VA) and it ended up having two pages worth of issues. Afterwards it seemed the owner knew the issues existed and stated he fixed a few things after the PPI was done and said he would price it in the $30ks for a quick sale at auction come this Thursday, Feb 16th.

Owner ended up dropping the price asking me if I wanted and I said no based solely off the oil leak issue. He said he is just going to get rid of it so it is someone else’s problem. Thought I would give people here a heads up in the event one does come across it, they will not have to check the car out a second time.

Big items:
· Looks to have been wrecked – passenger front inner door seal (overspray)
· Slave cylinder leak
· Transmission wasn’t secure (probably due to a recent clutch install)
· Shift linkage was fixed by the technician as it wasn’t secure (probably due to a recent clutch install)
· Fuel pump had been recently installed (?)
· Heads leaking oil
· Spoiler hydraulics not working
· Horn doesn’t work
· NAV, stereo and disc changer doesn’t work
· Passenger seat controls don’t work
· Driver side seat lumbar doesn’t work, stuck in the outer position
· Passenger side mirror doesn’t function correctly with the controls
· Larger incorrect battery, bottom tray screwed up from acid
· Gas cap cracks
· Gas cap cover broken

Almo, Good luck in your quest, thanks for letting the community know. You spent the money on the PPI and walked away from "such a deal", well done. I always think of this as the iceberg principle, more issues under the surface. Wouldn't be surprised if this car had been through a major wreck or water damage.

 

When I first saw this thread I almost crapped my pants. I just bought a silver over black TT 911. I was semi relieved it was from Va. but still checked my VIN.

 

Agreed. Good on Allen to save everyone else from wasting some PPI $$ on such an abused car.
