100 cell vs straight pipes??
#62
I currently have an aftermarket tune on my car (not sure which brand) so I dont know if my tune has turned the rear o2 sensors off. Assuming the worst (that the tune still keeps them active and can throw an O2 code), at which point of restriction will the CEL be triggered? 200 Cell safe? 100Cell? Can I still run straight pipes?

It's not the number of cells (200 or 100) that matter but the surface area. A 100 cell cat with the same internal catalytic surface area as a 200 cell cat would not throw a code.

EuroPipe has a great write on there site about this.As Kevin fron UMW has brought this up on Rennlist..
I know with past tuners,,they use to ask what cell count your after market exhaust was when getting a map??
Just sharing what I know...

Hey Guys, the X Pipe exhaust system has become very popular for the Turbo cars due to its sound and power improvement over the mufflers. The System saves weight, makes power and doesn't sound too loud due to its Design factor. If anyone is interested in doing a Full 70mm Supersport X Pipe exhaust on their car with or without Cats, make sure to look into the Fabspeed setup. We can do our Supersport Exhaust and keep the CE light off. Our X Pipe design is different then the other vendors. Ours uses two full radius U Bends with a talk area in the middle which doesn't restrict the exhaust flow by making the exhaust gases have a direct impact into each other. Our design creates more of a scavenging effect which in return pulls the exhaust gases from the opposite bank out of the car. This design makes more power and torque, but also cancels out the bad sound frequencies to eliminate drone. And being a turbo car, the system isn't too loud, but has a deep and unique sound. We offer EVOMSit ECU tuning for all cars which allows us to eliminate the pesky CE light for the exhaust system when running Catbypass Pipes.

i am removing the cats on my maxspeed set up this week because its to quiet for me. I have removed the cats on all the cars ive had. Mustangs, corvettes, M3, ext...I think having cats has the horrible smell, i hate them. Nothing smells better than raw burnt fuel. I cant speak for the P car yet, but ive always picked up MPG as well after removing them
