I will never use the cup holder on this 2001 turbo. Have you guys replaced that DIN compartment over the radio with something more useful? I was thinking about moving the radio up to that spot and putting something else where the radio goes, if thats possible. On my 03, I replaced the CD compartment with a cubby and found it very useful.

Besides being hideous, I think putting a drink there could be VERY problematic. Any thoughts? pics would be helpful too. Thanks!

 

I replaced the worthless cup holder with another cuddy. I also wired a line in for my phone. Now it is a great place to keep my phone while streaming Pandora.

Etchhead, can you post a pic? I'd like to see how that looks. Mine doesn't have cup holders and I thought that was one of the main differences between 01 and newer models.

 

I believe early 01's (with bumperettes) do not have cup holders.
Mine doesnt although my bumperettes are deleted. Unless the previous owner deleted my beloved cup holder to put a headunit in.



Also, there is a umbrella slot in the passenger side door sill

It only works with a tapered mug/cup. The standard soda can or water bottle won't work but it's something.

 

My 01 has cup holders as well. They come in handy sometimes but they also block the view of the radio which is annoying.
If anybody has a good cupholders there not using I need just one side as its broken

 

You can put a double din Navi/Stereo in there. Move the HVAC control down to the bottom of the center consol (you just may need a different plate to cover it try Suncoast) and there will be one din spot open above it. You can either put a cubby, CD holder (kind of worthless) or a Dgauge.

Thanks Etchhead. I guess that explains why mine doesn't have it. I have the PCM/Nav system there that takes up all that space. I think I've seen smaller ones that fit between the PCM and the vents.

 

I lost my cupholders all-together when I did the GT3 center console delete.... I love having passengers now so I can be like 'hold this'
