Nosejob!
Funny you should mention that. At first I was really nervous...of course because it's made of FRP and I was afraid to back it out of the driveway. But so far it seems to be ok, no scrapes. I did measure the distance between the lowest part of the OE bumper and the ground and again after the new one was installed and it dropped 1". Certainly something to keep in mind when I consider future suspension mods.
totally! I think black is the best color for this bumper. I think it turned out great.
Thanks for all the comments, both positive and other. Like I said, this is only the first in a bunch of things I’m planning to do so more to come.
I really posted the pictures because I know when I was thinking about doing this I couldn’t find too many good examples of this bumper on a 996. Figured I’d share so others could decide for themselves if they were looking at what was available.
The LED’s function exactly as they do on the 997TT….only the last light on the end stays lit, the others flash yellow when I use the turn signals/hazards. One of the things I’m considering is swapping those LED’s out with ones that are actually DRL’s. I believe Agency Power makes a kit that looks identical to the OE’s and are pretty much plug-n-play. It won’t change the overall look any but I’m leaning towards wanting that functionality.

When I was working on my 7TT front I also wanted the full white DRLs. I first tried replacing the amber LEDs with Philips white LEDs exactly as OEM but wiring was just so delicate. I thought about getting the APs but they were just too expensive. I just ended up buying an aftermarket eBay LED strip and had it fitted into the OEM 7TT housing. Best decision. Super cheap and easy to replace. Now that they are white I have them hooked up to my driving lights on the first click. Obviously stays on with headlights. Awesome.
can we has a pic??
I slept on it. I like it but side inatke hole's (to my eye) angle upwards is too steep. It kind of kills the line for me and takes it to Japanese Godzila design. The rest is superb including the LEDS.
Nosejob!
Thanks! Unfortunately I don’t have one head on…..but I will take one and post it.
Yes, please, I too would be interested in seeing how yours lights look with the new LED’s. I may also PM you to get more details of how you went about this if you don’t mind sharing.
Yes, the side air intakes are larger and angled, obviously, but certainly not something we haven't seen before. I realize each of these examples are stylistically very different, and aesthetically affect the look of each front end. I’m not trying to compare mine to them or justify my selection, I guess my point is larger intakes are not all that uncommon on high-performance vehicles. At the end of the day, different opinions are what makes this world interesting and I have enjoyed reading through the various comments so far.

Easily rectified with a rear spoiler, TA style side skirts (will do wonders since they are very aggressive as well), and a .5-1" drop.
Then you'll have to add some power to back up the look!
So much fun!!
Yep ttpopo, that's pretty much what I have in mind plus a nice set of rims. That should take care of the outside. But somewhere in between all that a flash, exhaust and a few other goodies need to come into play. That go-fast crack pipe sure is addictive!!
