New owner intro - '01 Arctic Silver
Congrats on the purchase!
Take a look at my build thread (link is in my signature below) for a full list of things to look at aside from the things you listed. I'm not sure whether you need to drop the motor to do the clutch conversion, but a number of things I did were because I needed a new clutch, so the motor was coming out anyway.

Coming from an E39 M5 myself - you won't regret it. Congratulations!
Just wait until you take her to the track for the first time. It is a revelation
BTW - your car looks more like Polar silver than Artic in the pictures.

Congrats. The car looks great! I pick my Arctic up this Friday!
I have come close to owning an E39 M5 on a few occasions, but ended up with an E46 M3 instead and then went retro with an E28 M5. I still hope to pick up an E39 someday...

Thank guys! The car is definitely Arctic, I messed around with those photos with an iphone app...that probably threw the color off a bit I guess.
I can't wait to take her to the track...that will be a blast.
M Badger - I definitely recommend an E39. Was a great car, really the perfect all around DD. I would have loved to been able to keep it. E28 on the other hand...that's just a classic. Very nice!

As a quick tip for a new owner - get an alignment. I waited about 5 months before getting mine checked. Although she drove OK during this time, I found that the previous owner had tried to reduce rear tire wear by removing, in an imbalanced way, as much negative camber as possible. Unfortunately by doing so, there was way too much toe in in the back. Not only did this not achieve his end as the toe wore the tires more quickly, but it also increased the intrinsic under steer already present with the 996tt. Once fixed, the car was much more fun at the limit - not to mention kinder to the tires.
Have fun with your new toy!
