Source of Power Steering leak found

Been having a few drips of power steering fluid from the rear of the vehicle, directly below the reservoir. Usually 2 drips or so after a good drive. First shop could not find the source - but they were only looking from underneath.

Next shop found that the problem was with the seal of the power steering pump..appeared that when the GT2 mod was done (before my ownership), they opened the top layer in order to remove the drive coupler (which is normal) - but for some reason, also opened the next layer of the pump. This layer is spring loaded and has bearings - apparently once it is opened, there is no way to get it sealed properly again. So it has been happening for some time.

Will be a nice @$1,800 job. Trying to get it done before my DE event this weekend - uggh.

I am sorry for you. They do have to remove the power steering pump to do a little modification in it which is to remove a coupler....see thread: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ing-whine.html Thread#5 the last pdf....

But $1800.00 is a lot of money for a pump that is about $456.00 and it can be done in max 3 hours???? Just reinstalled mine last week and it is not a bad job. You need to replace a o-ring between the reservoir and the pump, another $9.23 ;-)

agree, but I'm in a pickle...want to get it fixed by a DE this weekend - my first repair shop burned all of my spare time. The $500 pumps are all re-manufactured - even though they are listed as new, new pump is $1,200 (prolly not a deal breaker to use a remanufactured one - but might as well do it right the first time). Add in labor and the work to replace a damaged coolant line bellow that got soaked.
I would not mind doing it myself at a leisurely pace - but I don't have that opportunity now (poor planning! haha).
